The japanese borrow a lot of words from different languages, and it's no different with english. So a lot of japanese would understand what famicom means. On another note, most other systems in japan also use english words. Like "Mega Drive" "PC Engine" and "Playstation"
Geez! Bah, too bad I put it up as an entire lot (the NES stuff) ah well, considering that I bought it at a really cheap price (like 10 years ago at Kay Bees it was all discount stuff) no biggie I suppose. I think I'll probably pick up a Super Famicom as well and sell that all as a package.
FF64 was just a tech demo as Fabrizo said, to show off the capabilities of N64 hardware. Square wouldn't have released the game anyway (When have you ever seen a Final Fantasy Game that had the exact same characters twice?) I'm pretty sure that it wasn't done on the actual N64 hardware but...
