    Translating Magic School Lunar

Looks like you've found me on Twitter already! I don't have my own discord server, but I am in yours already. Thank you! I have an editor lined up, but I'll let you know if that falls through. My plan is to do a pass of editing myself for readability / characterization, but after someone else...

    Translating Magic School Lunar

I guess I didn't have a thread about this? Huh. Anyway, yes! I'm working on Magic School Lunar with Suppertails. Since there's no official translation to port over, this is going to be a brand-new English translation, which is being done by Video Game King. Current status: A full first draft...

    Translating Lunar Silver Star Story

I didn't post it here but I have posted it elsewhere - I've been working with a friend on the FMVs to prepare them for the dub. Working Designs reedited several of the FMVs on the PS1 to accommodate their dialogue which runs longer than the Japanese version. These had to be reedited from...

    Translating Grandia

The Lunar translation is not dead. I posted my most recent update maybe two months ago! I understand people want to play but I wish there could be some understanding that life stuff happens.

    Translating Grandia

This is all really cool stuff! It looks like you've made amazing progress. In case it's any help, I did a little research on the FMV format last year and wrote up my notes here. It's stored in a Quicktime container, but some of the metadata in that container is misleading. The video is an...

    Translating Lunar Silver Star Story

Haven't posted in awhile, have I? Sorry about that. Things have been a little slow, but still ongoing. Been experimenting with decompiling the script into code; that could make it more flexible to edit and compile back into binary later, for example for non-English translations. Here's a short...

I Need help for translate Sega Saturn Rom Cartridge

I found the font! It's uncompressed 16x14 tiles, which are stored beginning at 0xDF28 in the ROM.

    Translating Lunar Silver Star Story

Wow, it's been a long time since I posted huh? I've gotten a few things done since then. I finally got around to documenting the SYSTEM.DAT format. It's pretty simple, but it has some key resources in it. In particular, it contains menu graphics, so I had the chance to update these. These are...

    Translating Lunar Silver Star Story

That's great! Looks like good progress. I've been very busy recently, and I'm going to be very busy for the next few weeks - I get married on Tuesday! It turns out that involves a lot of work...? Who knew?

    Translating Lunar Silver Star Story

OK, it's been accepted! It will be in the next official release of FFmpeg. You can get nightly builds from this site, which should include it: https://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/ Right now, you can't encode new video using FFmpeg, but you can replace audio tracks in existing videos. That...

    Translating Lunar Silver Star Story

Sorry for the double-post, but another quick update. I've been trying out Sega's official "MovieToSaturn" tool from the Saturn SDK, which is for 68k-based Macs. It works fine on PPC Macs and I have a PowerMac with the classic environment installed. I was expecting it to include a Cinepak...

    Translating Lunar Silver Star Story

It will be, eventually! I'm submitting it as a new muxer to FFmpeg, which is a very popular open source video tool. If it gets accepted, you'll be able to download a copy of it for Windows from somewhere; otherwise, you'd have to apply my patch to the source and compile it yourself, which isn't...

    Translating Lunar Silver Star Story

I found the AVItoSaturn encoder's quality to be kinda mediocre, but yeah, it definitely *does* work! AVItoSaturn basically wraps the Windows Cinepak encoder with a Sega FILM container muxer. Since my muxer can remux existing Cinepak video with new audio, you can use that to take the output of...

Can you Convert Aif/Wav to .ADP? (Saturn XA Adpcm)

That's my patch. :) Unfortunately FFmpeg doesn't have support for encoding XA ADPCM, so I haven't spent any time at looking at adding support for muxing it.

    Translating Lunar Silver Star Story

What did you use to convert them? AVItoSaturn?

    Translating Lunar Silver Star Story

I've made a bit more progress, but I'm not there yet. I took a look at the AVItoSaturn source code. Unfortunately, it turns out it doesn't actually have a Cinepak encoder at all; it uses the builtin Windows encoder, and just tweaks the packet header to make it look like the Saturn is expecting...

Magic Knight Rayearth UJ Final Version [Region Free]

The video encoder I'm talking about here should eventually make it possible to add subtitles to the FMVs.

    Translating Lunar Silver Star Story

Made some more progress in the last bit! I've been working on FMV tooling on and off for a few months now, and it's finally paying off. I've been adding support for creating Saturn FMVs to an open source program called FFmpeg; it's basically the video swiss army knife, with support for a huge...

Magic Knight Rayearth UJ Final Version [Region Free]

Not a stupid question at all! Neither option is easier or harder than the other. Both versions of the game include all of the voice files. What needs to be updated is the script files, since the English version's scripts removed the references to the voices.

Magic Knight Rayearth UJ Final Version [Region Free]

Yep, that's right! The English version has voice acting in the intro and a couple of cutscenes, while the Japanese version has voice acting throughout the entire game for every named character.
