    Metal Gear Solid on Saturn

For the sceptics : I tried the demo in Mednafen and it's all legit, from the intro screen to the Easter eggs. I haven't tried it on real hardware, but other than potential extra slowdowns I see no issues here. Even if it didn't work on real hardware (like issues with bytes alignment while...

IRRÉEL (UNREAL for Sega Saturn) - Irréel : new brightness option

-Some people mentionned the game was too dark with their setup. I added an option to adjust the brightness (+/- 25%). Let me know if that's enough. -Some people said they disliked the use of mesh transparency in the corridor with the armor in Vortex Rikers. I changed it to additive transparency...

IRRÉEL (UNREAL for Sega Saturn) - Irréel : minor update

-I improved performances a little bit in some areas of Nyleve's falls by simply disabling the collision detection for the birds...who shouldn't get out of their paths anyway -I changed the collision detection for the projectiles (dispersion pistol and rockets) to BSP collision instead of per...

IRRÉEL (UNREAL for Sega Saturn) - Irréel : minor update

I mostly fixed a bug in the first map where one elevator's trigger was a bit too far (I planned to support delay triggers...but never did, so that trigger didn't work correctly). I also added some vegetation in the small pond in the second level. I also changed a bit the test level to show...

It should be fixed now, but I need playtesters to know ;)

IRRÉEL (UNREAL for Sega Saturn) - Irréel - important bug fix

Bug fix update. Hopefully it will correct the biggest issues, but since it's hard to encounter many of them on my own limited playtesting time make sure to continue to report the bugs! -Sometimes scripted gunshots or explosions could lead to a system crash. It should be fixed now. -I changed...

IRRÉEL (UNREAL for Sega Saturn) - IRRÉEL!

Surprise project! By myself and Corvusdeux! Sound driver by Ponut64! Still pretty much WIP, so bugs/crashes/glitches are expected and it's far from optimized - I just didn't have time to flesh everything out! Contains 2 maps + 1 bonus test map Just making it fit in RAM was probably what I spend...

SEGA Saturn 28th Anniversary Game Competition

Here is my entry : Irréel (?) https://segaxtreme.net/resources/irreel.140/ I didn't test it for that long, it might crash or have bugs left, please tell me if you encounter any!

IRRÉEL (UNREAL for Sega Saturn) 0.018

A tech demo of the original Unreal (1998) running on the Sega Saturn (1994)! By myself (XL2) and Corvusdeux! Sound driver by Ponut64! None of the original game's source code was used, I pretty much simply reused my Hellslave engine and adapted it for a couple of new features. A huge focus was...

    A Saturn Programming Challenge

Here is the link : https://github.com/celeriyacon/scspadpcm There are also third party DSP programs for 3D audio, but I don't know which game - if any - made use of it

    A Saturn Programming Challenge

The coolest thing I have seen with the SCSP DSP is the ADPCM decompression someone did as a test. He could decompress and play up to 8 compressed samples with it. The PS1 had hardware support for 24 compressed samples AFAIK, so 8 isn't that impressive, but still cool enough.

    A Saturn Programming Challenge

That's the read me file, I tried to translate some parts with Deepl translator. Here is some part of it, while they do give apologies I guess it's more a Japanese cultural thing than a recognition that VF3 won't happen (I really doubt that at the end of 1996 they could know already that it...

    A Saturn Programming Challenge

No, it's not, the 68k cpu can't access the rest of the system by itself from what I remember from the technical documents. It's also way too weak to be useful for 3D graphics. But it can help with 3D : 3D sound that is. There is even a third party library for it. But even for the SH2 it takes so...

    A Saturn Programming Challenge

But at the same time, we can't ignore that Fighters Megamix was getting very close to VF3. It included the fighting moves and mechanics, even one level (desert stage). For a quick cash grab Sega could have done it very quickly - heck, someone motivated could probably modify the original game to...

    A Saturn Programming Challenge

By mid-1997 the Saturn was already killed in the west and a lot of games were moved to the Dreamcast, which was already being worked on. So while a VF3 game was certainly being considered or worked on, I think something like Fighters Megamix would have been the most likely route they would have...

    A Saturn Programming Challenge

Those claims about VF3 are probably all BS. Even Yu Suzuki didn't remember anything about VF3 on Saturn. And while an accelerator might have been considered at some points, it makes no sense from a commercial point of view. If anything a VF3 game would have most likely used an improved version...
