Screeen resolution hacks

Widescreen on these older systems works by squishing everything horizontally, with the idea being that your widescreen TV will stretch it out. Look up anamorphic wide screen for a decent explanation of the idea.

If you play on a 4:3 CRT you should still see more, but everything is going to be squished.
So with that being said. I should probably not use the hack and use the original resolution for the best image (non squished) on my 4:3 CRT correct?

Question about these hacks. I am playing on a JVC CRT s-video. I currently am playing through SF3 S2 with the hack enabled. I noticed because of the hack I can not see the version number of the translation patch on the title screen. Do these patches do anything when playing on an old 4:3 CRT or am I just losing some screen because of it?
Thanks
The widescreen patch may not be compatible with the translated version of SF3 (scenario # 2). The patch is intended primarily for the original Japanese version of the game.

Hello paul_met, thank you for your excellent patches. I am trying to patch "The Story of Thor 2" in your patch readme it states.
- Attention! This hack is designed exclusively for the European version of the game (PAL). But you can convert PAL to NTSC version with a patch in the folder "PAL-to-NTSC". However, you need to change region of your PAL iso by self.
But when I open the archive "Story of Thor 2 - 4 in 1 Hack_(v1.1).7z" there is no such folder "PAL-to-NTSC" did you forget to include this patch? or am I missing somthing?

It is compatible (ish). I am still using your first version of the patch, so I apologize for some of the questions given to you may be for that outdated version.

The problem is there are 2 different versions of Scenario 2, and you only support one of them (I think you support 1.003,) so I need to sit down one day and port it over to 2.000.

You may have to give his new patch a try.

If you are using the wizard style patcher, you can take his files and drop it in Patcher/GS-9188/

Download the latest patch from my site. The archive contains the NTSC directory - from there you need to grab the files.

Does anyone know what the Action Replay Widescreen code is for Sega Rally? Either the EU/PAL version or the Japanese NTSC-U version. Anyone know?

I have some trouble to run Grandia CD1 patched on Sega Saturn with Fenrir.
Patch I used:

I patched CD1 and replaced all files. Saved the changes with default cdimage settings. After the intro the game freezes. (the unpatched versions runs fine)
It looks like there are more than one version of Grandia:
Grandia (Japan) (Disc 1) (1M)
Grandia (Japan) (Disc 1) (2M)
Grandia (Japan) (Disc 2) (1M, 2M)
Grandia (Japan) (Disc 2) (3M)
Grandia (Japan) (Disc 2) (4M)

I used the first one.

I also patched Sega Touring Car Championship. The game is displayed in widescreen but the resolution is the same (352) and not 704x448i as stated on the page.

Thanks for the help.

WIPEOUT-2 (Wipeout 2097 PAL) T-11308H-50 V1.0199

CEP Cheat, Widescreen, transparent shadows, transparent HUD elements, uncapped framerate, the game is artificilay capped to 20 fps this cheats removes it and the game renders as much frames as it can, sometimes 60 fps most of the time around 30 fps.

Could someone do these codes so we could hex edit the image?

I've messed with adding the frame rate unlock in, the problem is the entire game speed is tied to that so the game runs too fast when you go beyond 20fps. The timers and everything go too fast and the game is almost unplayable. On real hardware the frame rate also goes all over the place when you do this as it can't maintain a solid 30fps.

The transparency changes are similar, you can see the overdraw errors happening even in those screenshots, and it also can cause more slowdowns.

I know people would love a simple "fix" to make these games run at 30fps or 60fps with transparencies, but the reality is there's a reason they're capped at 20fps with meshes. If you want this on an emulator where it will run at a solid 30 or 60fps no problem, then you can just apply the Action Replay cheats.

The one I was really looking for the most to hex was the widescreen one. I'm running Beetle Saturn, as far as I know, it does not take Gameshark/Action Replay codes. Thanks very much for the info TrekkiesUnite118.

Is there any way you could share the WS patch you found? I cannot for the life of me find another source on this, and the .ru link refuses to fully resolve on my end. I'm unsure if that is it being blocked or some kind of hosting issue.

Hi PAUL_MET
What version of the hack for Legend Of Oasis are you on?
I am doing a translation of the Us to French version, I would have liked to add your hack to it, to complete the whole thing
