Lunar SSS English Patch

Translating Lunar Silver Star Story 1.5.1

Try this patch out and let me know if it fixes the issue for now, ill update the link in the resource section if it does.
This should revert lunas healing song to jp and nall's voice clip during battle. Those are the two suspect audio clips.

Put some hours in and it no longer freezes at the nall part and everything was good but then it randomly froze in battle with the music still playing

This is on Saturn with burned quality media

Seems fairly stable though I’ve put in about 3 hours and it only froze up in battle once.

Maybe all Japanese battle sounds would be the most stable without reverse engineering. That wouldn’t bother me just having the fmvs in English is great enough for me

Just wanted to update I’ve put 15 hours in and it’s only froze on me once which this is 30 year old hardware could be that, it’s been running and playing beautifully and this is the definite way to play the game. Kudos! Will update after my full playthrough but so far pretty damn stable on original hardware nown

Need some help please. For the life of me I cannot get the Dub version to burn to disc. I can patch the files no problem but when I try to burn the resulting bin + cue it immediately fails. Tried both Imgburn and Anyburn. Neither will work. Also tried both CD-R and CD-RW high quality media.

any chance of putting out a version with subbed FMV cutscenes? or is subbing the FMV cutscenes difficult?
Hardsubbing would be easy, but would also result in reduced quality. Might be a good stopgap solution. Doing softsubs would require code hackery, but if they can find the time (eventually) it would be pretty awesome.

The plan is to do that - hard sub then later if i get around to it code in soft subs. Right now the movies are a little over half-translated. The translators just been really busy. When we have all of those ill beg Trekkies to go and reencode.

Use alcohol 120. It’s the only software that won’t give an error on the .cue file. Works perfect I’ve still had awesome experience with this latest patch made. 1 freeze in 25 hours of game play is stable. The freeze could just have been my 30 year old Saturn. Without out a ton of extra work this is the definitive version. Hood job

I was rather suprised by the good picture quality of the hardsubed videos in Grandia and Sakura Taisen though

I should probably attempt that and fix the jp audio on the one mpeg cutscene. KoD made updates to the patcher to support it if i recall. I just never released another update after that so i havent tried to see if it works.

Have you tried running the patched game in an emulator? Maybe that could rule out the media or whether its a patch failure of some sort
I can't even get the patched game to

Thank you. I'll give that a shot.

Sega Saturn Patcher v1.95 can open the MPEG edition; it's included with the Wachenröder entry in the Sega Saturn 27th Anniversary Game Competition: SEGA Saturn 27th Anniversary Game Competition

As a quick test I rebuilt the image and it booted in the Nova emulator.

EDIT: Hashes of MPEG files (plus a few other files) extracted from rebuilt image don't match hashes of files from original image, so it looks like a bit more work is needed to make Sega Saturn Patcher compatible with the MPEG version.

Indeed. I'm not saying you're going to lose a lot, but taking a lossy source video and re-encoding it as a lossy video will lose a bit of quality. In theory you could use fancypants modern algorithms to boost "source" quality in both scenarios, but that brings its own issues. I'm looking forward to the MPEG version the most, myself.
