Good bye! FM1808.

HOW TO MAKE A SEGASATURN BUILT-IN MEMORY CART:

1.ATMEL AT29C040A
2.74HC00
3.74HC244
4.CAPACITANCE:47uF/6.3V
5.PROGRAMMER & FILE(ssmemorytzmwxdump.zip)
If you use the old chip in the original SS memory cart, you don't need a programmer
6.CIRCUIT DIAGRAM

NOTES:
1.The memory chip(29C040A) MUST BE the product of ATMEL!!!!!!!
2.The “PROTECT” option cannot be selected when programming!!!!!!!!!

DOWNLOAD:
1.ssmemorytzmwxdump.zip
2.GerberPCBsaturnmemory.zip (PCB GERBER FILES,4 LAYERS 0.8MM)

2023/02/16 new:
Now, YZB made a piece of software, SS_RAM_Cartridge_Testing_Tool_V0.1_BY_YZB
We can make MEMORY CART more easily and no longer need programmers.

1.Buy NEW CHIP,make the PCB,Solder the CART on the SS motherboard
2.Burn " SS_RAM_Cartridge_Testing_Tool_V0.1_BY_YZB.ISO" to a CD or copy it to the ODE
3.Run it on Saturn,
4.If welded correctly, the following screen will appear, press "R" to unlock, ok, Turn off the SATURN.

I don't know anything about producing boards or programming chips, but this mod seems like such a quality of life no brainer. Has anyone besides OP given it a go?

This is pretty sick, if I had a pcb cnc I would definitely consider trying this...but I'm broke, so perhaps a project in the future.

Hi, I want to build one of these. What programmer, chip adapter do you recommend to use? Is XGecu T48 a decent choice?

I'm shocked this hasn't been picked up and available everywhere. This would probably eliminate most of the issues with saving on the Ram cart. In the past 5 years i've had 3 official save carts just format themselves or corrupt data.

I'm making an attempt in the coming days. Not sure if I am allowed to link to it, but there is a youtube video where the user harvests the chips from an existing back up ram card. It doesn't appear that they needed to reprogram any of the chips before soldering them on the board. I'll keep post if that method is successful for me.

I believe tzmwx is working on prototypes of an internal backup ram + 4mb option. Hoping that becomes a reality in the near future.

I completed the modification with chips from an oem Japanese memory card. As Tzmwx has just updated the original post with some cool new info.

Action Replay and 4mb Ram cards work normally when plugged in. Thank you @tzmwx !!

Can other Flash Memory be used? I am looking at other Memory IC that are easier to find like the SST39SF040-55-4C-WHE. Also would you be willing to share the design files or if not could you export the DXF of the PCB with Drill Holes?
Thank you.

I am a bit confused about that green wire which I assume is to manually turn it off? Can you explain that wire and how to use the on/off with manual and automatic? This info is not well covered in the original post.
Thanks.

Here
If you need automatic:
1.Cut "C"pin (Between slot and the motherboard),
2.slot "C"pin to B board "C"pin
3.B board "A"pin to memory cart "A"pin,finish

Do you have a list or some links to reputable sellers you have used? I assume the No Brand AT29C040A are not a good choice.
no,There are a lot of fake chips in the market.
maybe, you can learn Mr.ChronoLe , take down the chip from the SS original memory cart

Helder, if you don't plan on mass producing these boards, the oem Japanese back up ram carts have the suitable chips inside for harvesting. No reprogramming needed.

I didn't end up using a 47uf cap. @tzmwx Would you recommend adding the capacitor, or okay operation to leave it off?

It doesn't matter, because you are already soldered and the circuit is shorter, if it is card-type best add capacitance
