Has anyone here played around with the Game Basic Compiler from here? SegaXtreme - Saturn Game Basic Tools
It works well, in the sense that you can build a disc image and it will autoboot to a menu of all .B files you include. You can even replace the AUTORUN.B with your own file and boot...
Just played around a little bit with a controller input tester and the twin sticks. Looks like up on the right stick registers as a Y input and down registers as a B input. I'd be happy to hex edit a small change like that in, I just don't know where to do it!
Edit: Extracted the disc image...
Interesting that it would have to change in multiple places... And good to know I'm not the only one that would like this change! Agree that the robot controls feel great.
Guessing the answer to this is No, but gonna take a shot in the dark, anyway... Has anyone put together any alternative patches for different Twin Stick control layouts? Or is there a way to edit the official patch to change the layout?
Specifically, I'm looking for a way to map ascend/descend...
Just wanted to say thanks to the team for this! I've had my eye on this game for while and just played a few minutes of the patch on original hardware and it works great. Can't want to dig in and all the hard work is genuinely appreciated!
Nice. Seems like this could this be done programmatically?
I have some huge files (like Sega Rally and other racing game ghost data) that I'd like to back up, but clearly it doesn't make sense to do this manually.
I appreciate the follow-up. Just now had a chance to come back to this. Here's the original .wav that I used to create the rally_records.bin file from the output above. (Or at least, I'm pretty sure it's the same one. It's been a few weeks!)
Yes, actually! I came across that a month or so ago. I was able to determine that it's "Zone.zip" originally developed by Bits Laboratory, available here:

Satakore uploaded it here as "3D...
I mentioned in the first post that I was working on documenting some old Japanese Game BASIC programs that I haven't seen elsewhere. That update is now live, covering three games/demos:
1. Naruto
2. Operation Apollo 1
3. Do Don Baku (Rage Bomb)
Article here...
I'll have to take some time to play around with it and get specific answers to your questions, but I just tried again and here's the output:
tim@lubuntu-virtualbox:~/Saturn Saves$ minimodem -R 44100 -r 1200 --sync 0xAB --stopbits 4 --startbits 4 > rally_records.bin
### CARRIER 1200 @ 1200.0 Hz...
Glad you enjoyed! I absolutely will keep the tutorial going. I have lots of projects I like to tinker with, so I tend to jump between them. But I'll be getting back to this one soon.
Any tips for reducing the error rate? I picked up the Sabrent USB audio adapter you mentioned in chat. I was able to transfer a ~2000 byte file successfully (from my FDD, no less), but my Sega Rally records always fail. That file is ~5000 bytes. Tried transferring it from both internal...
Old post, but in case you/others are still having this problem... I have had this happen with other systems when there is a cracked solder joint connecting the controller port to the main board. I'd open it up and reflow all the port's joints.
Hi, folks... Been poking around these forums and really enjoying them. I thought people here might be interested in an article I recently posted on how to get started with Game BASIC for Sega Saturn:

This goes through how to get...
Registered just so I could say Thanks and that this is incredible! I was playing around with this last night and it works great. And here's the kicker: my laptop doesn't even have a proper microphone or line-in jack, just a combo jack for headsets and I don't have a proper connector for it...
