    DC Boot Screen

By what I know the DC bios checks for some values on it's internal flash memory. The logo swirl color is hard wired to the 50/60hz ID bit on the flash. If it's 50Hz the swirl will be blue, else it will be orange. Brazilian Dreamcast outputs PAL video (60Hz PAL-M video) so it's swirl is orange...

That's how some chinese companies make their PSX and PS2 discs boot on unmoded machines ... One even took the USB naplink software and made it bootable using the inner ring and idex of DATEL's DVD region X ... lol It would be easier to dupe the saturn ring as it is on the outer side of the...

    Audio files

That files are ADPCM streams. I don't know if anyone made a program to read WAV data out of them ... Maybe you want to get a CPS2 emulator and dump the sound output as WAV. The music on the ADPCM files are just digitized audio from a real CPS2 board.

Only JVC MPEG cart can read Photo CDs... Mine is a Hitachi one (I own a black Hisaturn, not the car GPS model and the MPEG cart came in the bundle), which is same as SEGA one, exept for the look of the player software, which has a diferent "splash screen". For my machine I must use a CD called...

To properly play a VCD disc, the software must read data that is not just MPEG stream, but standard data on the 1st track. As you probably know, a MPEG1 VCD disc has a primary track with the index an replayer software for CDI and menu data (when played on a phillips CDI, VCDs can have a...

I'm sure of that because the drive must at least allow the bios to read the IP of the disc... The Saturn DOES NOT attempt to read barcode on discs which have no IP or a non Saturn IP (I.E.: Sega-CD disc) Anyway attempting to read the barcode on a disc that has nothing there could severely...

Actually the system SHOULD at least have free access to the first 16 sectors of the disc, so it's capable of determinating if a disc is or not a Saturn disc, as it should contain a valid IP. Also the Saturn will check the barcode in ANY disc which have a Saturn IP on it's first 16 sectors, even...

Also, when you open the CD lid the SH1 is reset. So you have to get a security check again, even if the game hold the interruption, to avoid execution exit to the CD player. But still, if a security check is required to read data off a disc, how is possible to the saturn to read a VCD with the...

Also burning it on a disc then booting with swap trick should work, I believe.... But if this CD exist it proves there IS a key command to disable the checking. I don't know however, if the command works before a check was sucessfull. In the Dreamcast however, the mainrom itself sends the key...

As someone pointed here (I think it was ExCyber) the CD subsystem is a black box. It's composed of 3 chips : YGR019 (Seems to be the interface and ASIC and maybe also with a DSP inside for error correction) HD6437097 (the code in it is called CDB105) (this for the 20 pin saturn) and the H8...

Software code to activate SMS mode in Genesis 1

BTW, that PAL (SPLD) is there on purpose of enabling the card slot. If you got no card slot, there's no need of it. That's why the brazilian clone adapter (Megavision) had no PAL chip.

"Placing program code in cartridges can be made into a security hole by creating a ROM with this portion rewritten" I think they mean: By making a bootable cartridge you show hackers how to boot trojans and other hacking tools into the system. P.S.: Yes there's a way to dump the bios with...

    Lunar SCDconv

Maybe it hangs because it's a 60hz version of the game and you're using PAL (50hz) hardware ... What you think about ?

SCD Mixing Cable -- Need Info

No at all. The SEGA/MEGA-CD have 2 extra signals on two pins of the connector (They are not conected on the original Genesis, just have the pin, buty unused) that are used to "listen" the audio output from the console and then mix that audio with the PCM and CD-DA audio for the stereo RCA jacks...

Dc in car, replace laser ribbbon w\ wires

Better than doing that, what about doing the extension on the BUS (using a 1999 model, which have the GD rom drive board separated and detachable) The conection of the laser unit to the drive is analogic, so it's very sensible to noise and long wires. In other hand, the GD rom bus is digital...

    Does MEGA-CD 1 Euro exists ?

My machine is a "This is a PAL Compatible MEGA-CD for exclusive use in southeast asia." (Besides the fact it's a NTSC japanese-like MEGA-CD, it can run japanese games in 50hz.) The more interesting fact about it is it's serial number: A20001930 (So I presume this is from the very first batch of...

Neat trick for peps with japanese machines.

Actually I have everything documented. As it's pretty simple, should be no trouble to put my "quick and dirty" nops or a relative jump instruction on the end of the japanese security code for the correct address on the IP.BIN of the iso. The method I used was: I'd pad size of the japanese...

32X PAL TO NTSC IS POSIBLE?

The problem is: last time I saw a 32X unit open was like 5 years ago ... How could I remember exactly the number of the positions of the resistor ? I just remembered it also have a chroma cristal of 4.7mhz on the euro version. Change it to 3.579545 and that resistor ... That will make your...

    sonic cd jap experimentH

No ... The japanese version doesn't have anything written in japanese, if my memory doesn't betray me. It just makes the ending and opening movies have the same musics as the ones in the CD-Da tracks. The IP.BIN change is just to make the jap version work on a US sega CD. And be sure to TEST the...
