well dvd is nice on my projector. maybe if you lowered the intensity of the image to give it a more "filmic" picture it might look better? lots of dvds (unfortunately) have edge enhancement in the picture to make it look better on crappy tvs, which makes it look too poppy and digitized/unnatural...

yep, analog cable sucks. digital cable isn't perfect either because of the mpeg2 they use, but its still MUCH nicer than this crap i have atm :)

theyre like $10 on infocus' website. i'm just too lazy to order one, since i haven't got the digital cable tuner yet (they only gave us 2 and they're in other rooms).

also try videolan, it may do the trick: http://www.videolan.org/ also useful for streaming stuff over lan to another pc (maybe one closer to a tv with tv-out) i used it for awhile before i got my projector :)

my problem with 5 is that it likes to change the way songs look in my playlist, it fucks up displaying all of my songs without id3 tags. gonna downgrade back to 2.91 soon.

Planning a basic 'media' PC if you're gonna be that cheap why not just grab a $50 apex, they play mp3s, too :P

2cd xvid encodes with 5.1 ac3 sound are my friends :) although i still prefer dvds.

mines only 800x600 res, but i don't see any screendoor effect at distances > 5 ft. stopped seeing the rainbow effect after about a week, once i stopped deliberately trying to see it (look up info on DLP technology if you don't know what it is). i don't think you'd be able to make a smaller CRT...
