Celeron vs Pentium III

I recently aquired an old Celeron when I upgraded a friend's PC. It's a little too sluggish for my liking so I want to turf the current CPU for something with a little more speed. Which would run better, a Celeron 1.4 GHz or a P III 1.26 GHz?

BTW, the PC already has PC133 ram.

The Tualitan core P3's will out-perform an equal speed P4 CPU by a long way. The celeron may have the legs, but the P3's L2 cache and FSB more then makes up for the speed difference.

Yeah. No challenge. Anyone know off-hand what the fastest clocked tualatin-based (celeron or PIII) chip was? I mean stock, of course.

Yeah. The only sad part is that I can spend roughly $30 and get a Duron that would at least match that PIII.

Can you make it work in my motherboard? ;)

Sure, but it'll cost you $40 extra, and your motherboard may look different when I'm done. :p

I was just remembering when my brother bought a badass (expensive too) 933Mhz PIII, and thinking about how only a short time later, it's massively outdated.
