Heh... Don't get me started Gallstaff

I'd rather have no computer at all, than to be stuck with a Windows machine.

Heh heh, that's rad Cloud, I have a powerbook 540c that I still use from time to time, a little bit more tricked out than yours with 38 megs of ram and system 8.1.

My main net-surfin' PC:

AMD Athlon XP 1600

PC Chips M830LR MB

GeForce4Ti 4600 VIVO

1GB PC266 DDR

7200 RPM IDE HD's - 1 40G, 1 80G

SB PCI 512

Gentoo Linux '1.4'

My main gfx workstation PC:

AMD Athlon 2600+

Shuttle SN41G

1GB 400mhz (forget the 'PC' rating) DDR

Nforce2 audio

Radeon 9500 Pro

7200rpm 100G hd

Win XP w/latest crap

At this rate, I dont think I'll have the need to upgrade for a long time, although I may need to add more processing power to my rendering network if I decide to do increasingly complex/more renders + animations. I have it set up right now so that both machines can work together on a single frame out of lightwave if I so choose. The next thing I'm planning on getting is more/better monitors, ideally I want to have two on both machines, although that's a lot of real estate for the size of the room I work in.

  • Soyo KT333 Dragon Lite (onboard C-Media CMI8738 audio and VIA VT8233 integrated Ethernet controller)
  • AMD Athlon XP 1800+
  • 512MB Mushkin PC2100 Basic
  • ATI Radeon 8500 64MB
  • Maxtor DiamondMax 7200RPM 45GB
  • TDK VeloCD 16/10/40X
  • Sony DWU10A DVD±RW graciously donated by MasterAkumaMatata :)

edit: peripherals and such

  • PC Magic Box (PSX/Saturn/DC controller adapter, with - of course - a Saturn pad plugged in)
  • EMC Multisystems / Proview SA-986 (19" non-flat CRT)
  • Logitech Z-340 speakers
  • Unicomp Customizer 104 keyboard (classic IBM/Lexmark "buckling spring" design - not for people who like quiet typing)
  • Logitech First Mouse Wheel

I find that in general this is quite sufficient for my needs, aside from maybe the hard drive. Most likey my next "upgrade" will be to a smaller/quieter/more efficient system, though I am sort of watching AMD64 from the corner of my eye...

Asus CUSL2

Pentium III 1GHz

512MB PC 133

Gigabyte Radeon 9200 SE

Seagate 30GB 7200rpm

Seagate 120GB 7200rpm 8MB cache

Pioneer DVD-105

Samsung CDR/RW SW-224B

Creative Vibra 128

Philips 107E5

upgrading soon ;)

My laptop (and only pc):

1.13 gig celeron

256 MB ram (minus 32 b/c of graphics)

20 gig hard drive

graphics = integrated s3 savage generic crap, can allocate either 16 or 32 mb of ram to the vid card

This is definately not a gamers pc. In ut2003 I got a whopping 5 fps with constant drops to less than 1 fps. I was pretty surprised by that, I can get a good 30 fps in q3 and ut.

AMD Athlon XP 1700+

MSI K7T Turbo2 Mainboard

640 MB PC133 SDRAM

GeForce 4 Ti4200, 128 MB DDR RAM

SB Live XGamer

15 GB Western Digital, 40 GB Maxtor 7200 RPM hard drives

Plextor 8/4/32x burner, Cendyne DVD ROM drive

edit: other stuff, corrections

Cambridge SoundWorks 4-Point surround system

Packard Bell 17" monitor (I've had it forever, and until recently it's been great!)

Canon i550 Printer

Visioneer One Touch 7100 USB Scanner

Logitech USB Optical Scroll Mouse

MS Natural Multimedia Keyboard

Like ExCyber I have a somewhat basic machine. But it does everything I want it to. I plan on upgrading once I get a permenent, full time job. I'm not sure how high I'll upgrade to, but I'm sure it'll be behind the curve. Cutting edge is for everyone else, I'll clean up with deals on stuff no one else wants :) Though, I too, am watching the AMD64. We'll see what happens when I get there. And I actually have two faster CDRW drives stashed away, I just don't burn enough to bother changing out. And I like my trusty Plextor drive!

Pretty soon I'll be running an msi k7d-L motherboard though with the same stuff, except I'm not sure which cpu's I wanna run... I guess it depends on what the best cpu to MP mod and OC as well is when I get around to actually get around to putting the mobo in.
