PAL power supply unit on a Jap/US Megadrive?

1) Hi i'm thinking of buying a Jap/US Megadrive

and since it's not possible to use its AC/DC power supply unit directly and step-

down transformers are a bit expensive i was wondering if i can plug the

equivalent european power supply unit into them without burning the

machines...

Also are the holes for the PSU at the back of all three machines the same

size (same for Model 1 and same for model 2?)?

2) Am i right to believe that the same is not possible with the Jap/US Saturn

since its power supply is built-in the machine and so cannot be changed?

3) Do they use the same voltage in USA and Japan? 110V?

4) "220/240V AC - 110V AC stepdown transformer. Rated at 90Watts, but we

wouldn't advise you use any product rated at over 85W."

I saw this ad for a step-down trasformer somewhere and i was wondering

whether that would that be enough for most JAP/US consoles...Exceptions?

Thanks a lot!

1) you can use an euro PSU. MD1 and MD2/3 have different plugs and amperages.

2) you could swap the internal PSU, but only if the model matches.

3) 100V in japan, 110-120 in USA.. but either works, due to tolerances in devices.

4) exceptions are xbox and PS2.. they need 200/100 W at least.
