As many will know, the Japanese version (Kisuishou Densetsu Astal) of Astal gives you 5 hit points instead of 3, up to 9 lives (selectable in options), and infinite continues instead of just 1.
There are 2 patches included in the zip file. Both patches replace the Japanese release's movies + SFX with available US English resources.
Both versions include @Riggles Intro FMV vocals restoration. (the FMV still has the English VA "Astal!" but the theme now has the cut
JP vocals instead of being just the backing track.)
The SEGA intro vocals / Easter Egg Sega Calls of the original Japanese release are still functional, of course.
The "audio fixes" patch includes Riggles' edited .SND packs.
(No repetitive attack voices, the "HIEY!" attack and "HARIYA!" throwing samples have been muted.
Attacks still have their regular sfx, all of Astal's other grunts, yells and voices are untouched.
These two samples were edited out of all of the .SND packs.)
The other patch is for if you want the repetitive attack voices, as in the original game.
I'm including the original readme from Riggles' patch located here:
Astal - Various Audio Improvements Patch
in the zip for reference.
I did playtest through the entire game via RetroArch Mednafen core, and I did experience 1 very minor audio glitch at the end of level 13, when Astal says "You shouldn't follow me, you know. I don't want anything to happen to you."
