Are there diff. versions of Phantasy Star 1?

I swear that I read one place that there were two US releases of Phantasy Star 1 - one in 1987, and another in 1988. And there was some slight variation either in a character name or item name.

FWIW, I had a version of PS1 that was made in the early 90s after Sega got all their rights back from Tonka. The title screen said Copyright 1988, but the manual and box were both 1991 as I recall. Cost me $7 new.. I bought it because I had never seen it for sale for less than $65 and it was an old game at that point!

there are 3 versions in japan... fm sound, pcm sound, and a version for the genny(although it just used the mastersystem built into the genny). In america we only got 1 version.

Oh and the manual and box may have said that because they have several print runs. When they run out of copies but there is a demand for the game they just go and make more!

Then again i may be wrong!?
