all batteries go boom it just depends on how big. i have read stories in tech mags about being careful with your laptop battery cause if it hits a certain temp it will go boom.
I think one can be pretty sure that by the time your laptop is hot enough to make the battery explode, the CPU, video, memory, drives and everything else will have died the heat death long ago
i dunno it was quite an old thing and batteries have gotten better but it did happen when you left it on the charger too long(back in the days when it was direct current right to the battery with no auto shut off.
