this thing only works with original games i take it?

Hahaha! No. That won't happen unless some l33t firmware hacker gets one or more commonly available optical drives (CD/DVD) reading GDs. Otherwise, you have to use backups. Now, these CAN be obtained with a coder's cable and a DC (VERY SLOWLY), but 99.9+ % of people using Chanka are going to be using either stuff they downloaded, or homebrew. Currently you don't even need CDRs, since you can take an image and mount it as a virtual drive.

Hopefully it is compatible with more homebrew stuff, it'd help coders test large programs quickly without the aid of a BBA.

interesting. i have primarily backups myself and it keeps saying to insert a game cd, tho i have the correct drive letter assigned.

yeah vb, i saw the a release was out but the link wouldnt work for me. you guys get it to work?

According to the FAQ, this emu was meant to work under Windows XP or 2003. I'm saying meant to work under XP or 2003 because I did get it to work under Windows 2000 with Ikaruga.

I must say, I'm mightily impressed by this piece of software. Doing so much in just three months - hell, it's more polished than some emulators that have been under development for three years. I wonder if this guy has learned anything applicable to Saturn emulation?

Wait, this was from-scratch in 3 months? I was under the impression they used previous work.

It was done from scratch, but with help from other well known dreamcast, saturn, and misc emu authors. 😉 Information was shared among them I hear.

BTW.. Version alpha 2a is out fixing a few bugs left in the alpha2 release. Working and playing fine here with Soul Calibur, MvC2, Ikaruga, and a slew of other DC games. 😉

You're lucky on my W2000 it returns always to the BIOS 🙁

Chanka is the spanish name for the shoe you see on the website

Some little infos : they are 3 to work on this emu (4 with Elsemi now). Garrofi (the main programmer) is a former employee of Pyro Studios (the spanish company that made the Commandos serie).

So he knows a lot about windows programming.

Another dev is a cdrom engineer, which is currently working on GD-ROM emulation (he says it's possible, and I tend to believe him 🙂 )

And a last little thing : the DC is far easier to program than the Saturn, for what I've been told 😉

Alright... I guess 3 (now 4) programmers may have done this in 3 months... but it just so unbelievable

Anyways, if the Chanka project steams along, then I'll have no choice but to respect and applaud these magnificent programmers :devil
