Toward the end of this year most DVD makers will announce burners that operate at 16 times the "normal" playback speed, copying an entire DVD in less than 6 minutes. Unfortunately that is likely to be the end of the line in terms of speed as DVD disks reach their physical limit. Like CD disks in a "52x" burner, a DVD at "16x" is spinning at 10,000 revolutions per minute as it copies the inner tracks. This speed is at the limit of current plastics technology.
