Multi-media player for mpeg, quicktime, etc.

BTW, just noticed they changed the forum name/description....but that's besides the point.

I am looking for a multi-media player. Something that supports all mpeg, streaming mpeg, quicktime files, real media files, etc. Something perferably w/ all the codecs and such (so many movies I get now I have to go search the net for codecs). Anyone know of one or have any suggestions?

That's what xbox is for. Lol. In any case, you're not gonna find an app that does them all. I Use ATI's file player, just cause it's the one I like the most, however it doesn't play quicktime or realmedia files. I have QT installed for those rare occasions where I need it... and well if somethings in realmedia, I figure it's not worth watching cause the quality has to be near crap, and it's not worth putting up with all the advertisements that it pops up.

I thought 2k came with 7? I pretty much stopped using WMP shortly after 7, and classic was definetly a much better product. I can't even stand it at all now, and refuse to use it.

AFAIK, all versions of Windows ship with WMP 6.4 - just go start->run->mplayer2

I don't know if this is different from "WMP Classic". It certainly doesn't have out-of-the-box support for any modern QT formats.

i have media player classic (stock w/ win2k pro correct?)

no media player classic is developed by someone else

It looks and acts the same, but it's different

I'm a really big fan of Zoom Player and Zoom Player professional on the Windows side. I don't know if they have QT support, but they can do just about everything else, and they allow you to tweak codec settings for optimal image quality.

But then again, who needs any other media player when you have the almighty mplayer?

if what was already suggested isn't working, install Quicktime and WMP 6.4 on your computer, and use Irfanview. yes, the image editor/converter does actually play Movies. it's kinda like a frontend for them, except the movie will open up inside an Irfanview window.

Media Player Classic has no relation to Microsoft, get it here and also get Real Alternative and Quicktime Alternative. Or you could just install REalplayer and Quicktime and you'll be able to play those files in Media Player Classic.

Media Player Classic is not so great. The program has problems reading mpeg headers which leads to incorrect aspect ratios and video sizes, and uses pretty un-obvious methods for doing things (Such as play listing/favorites and such). In addition, it seems to have a whack of functions for which the average person would never need to fiddle around with in the first place (While lacking odvious functions any player should have). As soon as I opened a VCD Standard video I instantly noted that at "supposed" 100% Viewing, the video was being squished slightly. And that’s without any widescreen or full screen offsetting with the controls! After fiddling around, I found out that this was not a setting and was a bug. If you use the REAL Media Player 6.4 you can immediately see that the picture is sized correctly and that it is free from distortion.
