Hey there guys!
First I must say that I know absolutely NOTHING about programming, but I happen to be a translator (in this case, Spanish, rioplatense variant), so I decided to give Claude a go and... well:
Most of the text is AI translated and I will revise it. This is essentially a game for kids... JAPANESE kids, I'd say; so my approach is to make an adaptation, it must have good prose, but it also must be understandable by children.
The race of the protagonist, to whom you can currently put a name no longer than 5 letters, is "ryujin" which literally means Dragon man. In Spanish, I put it as "Dragómbre".
.. again, this is like a fairy tale, filled with lots of fantasy characters with invented names that you gotta adapt to make some sense out of them. For instance on the next picture, the name of the face plate on top of the door made absolutely no sense either in Spanish or English, and I ended up calling it Janus (remember the character restriction), which is a Roman god of gates, etc.
All the characters and symbols below are fully working, btw! (took forever, even for Claude!)
Currently, the toughest part is to get the text of the book to display correctly. There are sizes and character restrictions everywhere, so for a language like Spanish (that uses more wording than English, for instance), this is a death blow. I found a font I thought would work, resized it and well... Claude is trying to cram everything there, but still breaking images of the book like crazy.
That said, I managed to play till chapter 2, and stopped playing till the text displayed is fully functional everywhere. Only then I'll throughly revise all text (believe me, it's a lot!)
* Menu is ok, will change font and allignment)
* Few elements need to be translated, like the text indicating the stuff you're currently holding on your hands
* Will try (when everything else is ok) to put subtitles for videos.
* When my Spanish patch is done, I'll command Claude to create a tool/open patch to anyone to translate to other languages, so that it's easier for fellow translators.
As a closing statement, guys... I've been wanting to do this since forever, and I really appreciate all the hidden gems I got to play because of all of you who managed to crack the codes and translate with passion so many games that otherwise would be forgotten, at least in this part of the world.
I know, as an actual translator, just how wonderful and terrible AI is, but then again... I think many awesome projects are surfacing, even things we would have never ever dreamed about (vibeports, etc.) and the importance of being able to bring a game that couldn't be cracked for decades, it's something to celebrate... of course I'll never take credit for what Claude is doing here, but believe me, I'll put a very important human part here and I promise, if things go well, to deliver the game we all wanted to try, the way it deserves.
Will provide updates next week. I could use a betatester or two, though 🙂
PS: So far, everything works without crashing... even on real hardware!
