Bah.. No love for Sarah.

Eh, haven't been paying much attention to VF5 lately. Been playing Evo, and am still hold a tiny bit of a grudge against Sega for not putting it on 360.

I read this months ago at the Versus City boards:

"1, VF5 is PS3 exclusive.

translation: we support japanese company only, even though our arcade hardware is the same as the american console (we tried to make our own hardware but we fucked up). we don't give a shit about the vfers outside of japan.

2, VF5 will not have online play.

translation: we don't want to ruining the "true" vf experience for our (japanese) players. Fuck building vf communities without of vf.net (which is JP only for you noobs). we don't give a shit about the vfers outside of japan.

3, VF5 software is on a rental basis.

translation: We are sick of you chinese, taiwanese, american, Koreans, eurofags and HKers importing VF. We are going to put a stop to it. we don't give a shit about the vfers outside of japan.

4, "we're making VF5 for today's Japanese arcade scene..." Daichi Katagirl

translation: everyone else go and fuck themselves. we don't give a shit about the vfers outside of japan.

Why will VF5 be available outside of japan on console in the first place? cuz Sony paid sega a load to promote the PS3."

I agree with it quite a bit. Though I have read of a Lindbergh machine in Chicago with VF5. Only six hours away...

Lindbergh is not "the same as" any American console, or any console for that matter. It's vaguely similar to Xbox in that it's PC-based with an Nvidia GPU, but Lindbergh is quite a bit more powerful, and if anything PS3's GPU has more in common with it than Xbox 360's GPU.

Hmm yeah it seems that it is true its "easier" to port Lindbergh games to PS3 but thats not a good reason for not bringing it to the Xbox360 really is it ?

On its own, no. But by the same token, Lindbergh's configuration certainly isn't a good reason to bash Sega for not bringing it to 360. Rumor has it that Sega wanted to do a 360 port of VF5, but MS wouldn't let them do it without online play (which the PS3 port will also reportedly lack). Really though it could be affected by any number of things having to do with licensing restrictions, developer support, et. al.

Ah I wish things were not so complicated so its Microsoft we should blame :(

Well, there's still the question of whether Sega has legitimate technical/cost reasons for not doing online play in the home version or they're just crippling the home version to prop up their arcade business. And the thing about MS requiring online play, while entirely plausible (considering that they collect fees for Live and are pushing it as one of the things that makes 360 unique), is only a rumor.

Maybe a good news for VF fans, the game will be sold with a second game : Virtua Fighter 10th Anniversary Fukkokuban for PS2

From the-magicbox.com

- Sega announced that Virtua Fighter 5 for PS3 will support hard drive installation to reduce disc loading time; the game will be released in Japan on February 28.

VF 5 is actually the best selling game of the PS3 with above 50,000 sales in one week.

The hopes for PS3 owner to get an online patch have ended. Sega has declared they won't release any patch for the PS3.

LONDON (16th January, 2008) - SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced it has released a new downloadable patch for Virtua Fighter(TM) 5, the critically acclaimed arcade fighting game now available for the Xbox 360(TM) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. The patch will include a number of gameplay additions and enhancements including:

*

Some characters will now be able to select costume-specific pants in alternate costumes, for example equipping Costume A pants in Costume B.

Replays of online battles can now be saved.

One additional item per character (appear as "Downloaded item" in Costume settings/Item edit dialog).

Gamer pictures will now be shown in online battles.

After winning the World Tournament Final, it's now more likely that rivals you have not defeated will be playing in arcades.

When someone joins an online match, you can now see their connection quality.

Various fixes for minor bugs, including a texture bug.

Easier sorting of rankings.

Rematches in Online VS. Player Matches now possible even when the players haven't added their opponent to their friend list.

The Xbox 360(TM) version of Virtua Fighter(TM) 5 is based on the latest arcade version update and features both analog stick and D-pad control, as well as vibration support. The game also includes an improved Quest mode featuring more CPU rivals, items, and emblems for character customisation. The DOJO mode has added features including leaderboards, training move settings, improved throw escape training, and the option to change your opponent's position and recovery type. These all work to create a more refined DOJO mode where players can improve their fighting strategy.

I read about this the other day in EGM I believe.

Apparently the issue is that VF5 was released on the PS3 before the ability to provide patches was available (on the PS3, the game itself doesn't support it), which was the root of the issue.

Not sure of the validity of that however.
