NPD Group Hardware and software sales

I wouldn't take the figures to seriously. The two new consoles would've been unavailable for at least part of the time so who knows how many they would've sold if they had them in stock.

I wonder how many people got PS2 confused for a PS3?

The figures actually should be taken seriously. They don't accurately represent the actual demand for the consoles if that is what you are trying to say, but there is no fiction involved here either. All that simply means is that the Wii had more on shelves to sell, and were sold, then the PS3 -- also that the 360 is still selling strong after the new consoles were released. As for who is winning the war, no one will know until all consoles are readily available for everyone to buy.

It also illustrates very well that Sony wasn't able to provide the numbers for PS3 consoles that they promised at all. Whether it matters or not is something still to be seen.

I would wait until next christmas after all console have been out for a year to see which one has preference.
