Saturn Trap Board

Hi Dudes!

Hi, Im DeQ, and this is my very first post on the Sx board (not really since I was here too much time back mmm I was here before Pinkbot5k deleted all the forums and even earlier, but I have been busy with studies and I disconected myself from all time consumming hobbies like ircing and posting in forums 🙂

its cool to be here again! 🙂

Well, my first post its a tech one.

I have benn given a Sanyo Saturn Kit, yeah, I mean, a CD board, a main board, psu, cables, and case...all taken apart

I have also a Trap Board, but it seems be modified. In the underside, where the IC LOGIC is, there are taps for 2 discrete components a resistor and a capacitor, labeled in the PCB as R1 and C1

None of them have nothing soldered onto, but the taps of C1 appears to be resoldered. Iwanna know is a little SMD capacitor was really on there.

I also need to know where goes soldered the only wire which is on the trap board (I think is somewhere under the CD board)

I have here MODs for the SS with black connector and white connector (gamegizmo like?)I hope I will be it running 🙂

Thank you in advance!

Best regards

Yes, there is an SMD capacitor on the underneath of the PC Trap.

Unfortunately I don't think it has anything written on it - if it does, I just can't read it.

After doing a bit of tracing, I believe it's hooked up to 5v. It's connected to one of the points that R207 would be attached to (if it were there). It's near the 21 pin ribbon socket and you'll be wanting the point that's closer to the edge of the PCB.

You might be lucky, but I wouldn't count on it. Even if it was a Gamegizmo mod and you could get it to work, the missing cap on the PC Trap might cause problems. I just don't know.

I have 2 saturns with sanyo cdboards (and thus, with that pc trap), i've been doing some tests and both worked without any problems when I just removed the pctrap and connected the cdboard directly to the mainboard... I don't have any spare modboards right now to try modding them...

@MAL

Well, I think that capacitor its only for deaccouppling, since its just between +U (a +5U for the VCC line of the logic IC on the trap board, so you guessing about the wire goes to +5 is right IMO) and GND signal, so I think its only to cut out noise signal in the bus, and many times the circuits nad work even without these.Im olny guessing of coz.

Anyway, from one of your trap boards, if you can meter the capacity of it (the voltage wouldnt be a problem) i can replace for a new one, making the board totally perfect.

Do you know if there are any scans of the trap board around the net?

I think this forum engine support image posting, so if you have an un mounted trap baord and a digital camera, you will make me happy 😉

Thank you guy

PS: Do anyone knows if there is any AMiGA software for the Action replay link method? Im intereseted in develop

Charles MacDonald's Satutil comes with sources and should be very easy to convert/reimplement.

You'll still have to build an adapter to deal with the comms link protocol. The schematics that exist for adapters currently are only for PC, but the protocol is pretty simple.

Amiga 2000, 3000 and 4000 have ISA slots but you mus have some sort of bridgeboard to use them.
