Sega Corp. has shut down Gifu Prefecture video game arcades after a little boy had to have his fingertip amputated because it got caught in a chain attached to a game machine, company officials said.
In addition to closing the All Star Park Gifu in the Riverside Mall in Motosu, Gifu Prefecture, and neighboring Sega Arena Gifu, the electronics company has also ordered video game arcades in Hiroshima and Saitama not to use their Target Striker machines, which are the same type as the one in which the boy was injured.
Sega has ordered its roughly 430 video game arcades nationwide to take stringent safety steps, and also set up a company task force to deal with the case.
