Some advice to mod a Type-1 saturn

Hi to everyone!

First of all, let me introduce the situation: i recently bought a (dead) saturn at a fair for around 3 euros and repaired it (dead PSU).

I already have some saturn games (mainly adventures) but as i'm rather jealous of original copies, i'd prefer using backups: so i've

decided then to get a modchip from here (http://www.angelfire.com/pa/Raluminat/model1.html) and adapt it for my model 1.

Before the modchip arrives, i'd like to clear things in my head a bit:

1) in my particular board revision (first photo), the modchip components needs to face outwards the console?

2) The flat cable from the cd board must be connected in the rightmost part of the modchip connector? (leaving pin 1 on the modchip unconnected)

3) if anyone has a saturn like mine, would there be a possibility to get some close-up pictures of an installed modchip?

Thanks everyone :)

there is a guide to installing model-2 chips on a model 1 saturn @ racketboy.com

maybe it will help. i'm in the same boat as you, about to buy a model 1 again but with no idea how to mod it..

I just got a mod chip from another store to try and do the 21 pin to 20 pin convertion and failed badly... It would only read games as Audio disks. I think I may have f-ed up the board some how and after a million retrys some of the metal flat pins on the board are flaking off so I think the board is done.

On that note any one know where I can get another chip?

are you talking about damaging the pins on the ribbon cables? are you sure it loads as audio because of the mod-chip, because it could be another problem (for example read my topic below this one called 'cd-rom adjustments')...

as for buying another chip, i will find where i bought mine tomorrow. but try to look around. even racketboy had some but sold out now? you can ask him

they used to be $20, then $30. now probably $40.

It's possible to make your own you know :smokin:

in the mean time check these out

http://www.angelfire.com/pa/Raluminat/forsale.html (stock should come in next week) < great info on installation, etc on that site as well

http://www.jandaman.com/ old..

Guys, really, its not worth it. I tried to do it and failed miserably. It would spin the disc, but only find the disc as an audio one. I might just buy a model 2 saturn and mod that, cause i dont want to sell/get rid of my current one.

---That was my thread where i tried to mod the model 2 chip into the model 1

----An interesting development i am watching, if it ever goes through, i WILL buy one.
