Where to find a new 21 pin Ribbon Cable?

Hey guys, I just tried to install my Saturn mod and somehow I managed to tear up one end on my ribbon cable (AWM 2896 80c VM1) 21-pin and now the laser doesn't move, and the CDs don't spin. I took out the mod chip for now until I get a new ribbon to work with.

Can somebody tell me where to purchase more ribbon cables? I searched the forums here and only one site came up: www.playthegames.com but the site no longer exists.

I'm wondering if I should keep the blue rectangle plastic piece in with the ribbon cable to make the connectors more solid, or to prevent this tearing up from happening again, should I remove the blue plastic piece off the ribbon cable and risk weak connections?

Thanks guys.

If you're really careful you might be able to cut off a few millimetres from the end to get a new straight edge.

IIRC the exposed metal is longer than it actually needs to be and a small trim wouldn't adversly effect it.

Even if I were to cut off a small bit, I doubt it would work. It's more bent up and one pin in the middle is pretty peeled upwards -- probably past the limit.

I could try it, but after examining all of the tearing up, it looks like a new ribbon cable is what I need.

Fair enough.

That one in the middle doesn't look that in the pic - you could probably cut the cable where it's bent upwards - but then I haven't got it in front of me. *shrug*

As for a replacement - none of the usual suspects seem to have them any more. In fact Lan-Kwei (who used to have them) have absolutely sod all Saturn stuff now. 🙁

Well, good news. I did cut part of the cable and the CDs are now spinning. I'm warming up my soldering gun for one last go. This time, I did not keep the blue plastic piece in with the ribbon cable to the mod chip for a snug fit, because I think that's what ruined it. So as soon as my solder gun is warmed up, this is my last chance. There really should be replacement Saturn stuff.... kind of makes me nervous. :/

This is really angrifying me.

Without the mod chip, the ribbon cable works even though I had to cut it short.

With the mod chip in, soldered up, and ready to go, the CDs do not spin. I tried moving the ribbon cable a bit to see if it's a connection issue and it just doesn't work. Either the ribbon cable is not getting a good connection while inside of the mod chip, -OR- the modchip is just bad.

Welp, I just hooked up the Saturn to my livingroom TV and I don't have CD audio (music) in Saturn bomberman. I really need a new ribbon cable.
