Anyone from California?

I live in cali. In the San Fernando Valley to be exact, the porn capital of the world. I deal with real estate all day and let me tell you guys that cali is real expensive. Your truly are paying for the lifestyle. Now Im a young guy and I love the southern cali experience. It has its up and downs but theres still no other place I'd rather be. Well maybe a nice villa in Cancun.......

Gotta love it here in PA, no earthquakes, no tornadoe, no hurricans, just snow. We have tons of trees, hills, and open space its awesome. REALLY nice to go out on a drive here, especially during the fall when the leaves change. Beautifull. Just don't move in Philly, they have a wacky mayor.

PA freaking sucks. well at least my "city". absolutely no jobs and the ones that theres are require you to work assinine hours and have 3 roomates to rent an apartment because they pay shit. man am i glad i graduated from edinboro in december 2002 🙄

Except for the Mexicans (we have New Zealanders instead), the California that you describe Racket, sounds just like Sydney. :lol:

when u first start skiing/snowboarding, you're gunna hurt. If not from the falls, from the extreme exercise your legs get.

70 I believe was the cutoff date, I think 69 was the last yr wjere u didn't have to emission it.

I wanna go to Australia once in my life , looks pretty cool on TV.

At least New Zealanders speak your own language don't they?

Gee, I remember when I was a kid in the '60's, visiting Cali and thinking it would be cool to live there. Now, not so much. I live in Phoenix now and have to go to LA 3-4 times a year for work and dread it every time. And this from a guy who lived in NYC for 17 years.

To me, and I know it would cost an arm and a sega, Napa would be a great place to retire.

I have been to PA many times Ice, Love the NE area in the Poconos. Hated visiting York. Work was really tough back then, in the '90's. But it is beautiful country.

Racket, If you go back 200 years, you would be the one speaking the wrong language. California was originally settled by Spaniards and Mestizo Mexicans. Where's the love?

Napa is a nice area.

But yeah it aint cheap.

My wife and I go there for weekends sometimes to get away from the nomral Bay Area runaround.

And as for the Mexicans thing, there's a difference between the ones that started this area and the ones that are coming here now. Many now are coming here for jobs and/or to get free money that my tax dollars are paying for. Hopefully Arnold will make at least a dent in this.

Maybe. Interesting that Arnold is Austrian, not a native born US citizen. But the, while we won't solve any social problems here, the argument has been made that if you sealed the border, kicked out all the illegal Mexicans, that the economy of many states, including AZ & CA, would grind to a halt. They do most of the jobs that no one else wants to do. And the small business community loves the cheap, benefits free work force pool to draw on. And many businesses are starting to cater to their community. What is intersting is that many feel that they are uneducated. But having traveled to Mexico as a college student to observe their High Schools, I found that they were doing college level math and science work. It is also ironic that while many complain about the language thing, most do speak english while few here speak spanish. Who is really the better educated? But then this is getting very OT and I apologize for that.

You make some good points there.

But that doesn't make me want to live there.

Many businesses ARE catering to them, but it's that kind of stuff that bugs me.

I go to the post office. All the big letters on the signs are in Spanish. I have to search around for English. Same with many labels on normal products at WalMart. These places know that there are a lot of Spanish-speaking people there -- many of which don't speak English well (I've encountered many like this -- but they have kids that can translate a bit for them) so they cater to them so they can gain their loyalty. But at the same time it alienates people like myself that get annoyed by this.

I guess it just depends on the person, but it just gets on my nerves.

Funny thing is, I took 3 years of Spanish in High School and actually half-way enjoyed it. Now... well...

My wife and I love it when we visit MI and all we hear is English. It's quite refreshing.
