You know it's risky buisness on some websites looking for shadier material. Well I was looking for some stuff (not porn) and then it triggered a whole hell of a lot of porn popups. I couldn't stop em. Shitty pop up blocker did nothing at all. So after I rebooted I get a virus report. I clean out the virus and guess what IE now has buttons for free xxx content, xxx videos, young teens and cumshots. Why... argh. I didn't put this there it was that freaking stupid dialer. God the dialer, the virus I despise most of all. How do I get rid of thse quick tab things and set stuff back to normal... argh :damn:

Heh I fixed it I checked for recently used programs and I noticed one I didn't recognize so I check out what it was and it was a special porn toolbar. I uninstalled it. Thanks though.

If you're using IE make sure you get the NEW Google toolbar for it. It's popup blocker is incredible. I have yet to get any popups since installing it other than on sites I've allowed them on. It's also stupid easy to google for stuff now too.

Get it here.

Alternately you could get firebird... and have it work better than ie and have a popup blocker built in *shrug*.

Better than IE?

I've had firebird have trouble generating some pages, when IE doesn't.

I can vouch for Firebird's accuracy in page rendering. It's at least better than Opera, and I believe on par with IE. It's never given me any trouble with webpages looking screwy.

I used to be an IE advocate too, Tindo. It's ok. Just let it all go. Just let go and see the truth. You'll be a much happier person. ;) :p

Firebird kicks ass. Actually, Mozilla in general kicks ass for lots of reasons (what a user thinks of as "Mozilla" is a tiny fraction of the project's impact), but Phoenix/Firebird is where they really brought it all together and made a great browser.

I downloade Netscape 7.0, and have used it religiously since. That being said, a number of people have recommended Firebird over NS... any particular reason(s) why?

And as an aside, IE is nice to keep around, but the convenience of these mozilla based browsers makes it all worth it.

Firebird has no match

Compatibility is getting better.

Features blow away IE.

If IE didn't come with Windows, it wouldn't stand a chance

I've never used Netscape. But Firebird is fast, accurate, feature-rich and stable. Despite its high functionality it comes with very minimal bloat. And you choose what features you want with extensions (plug-ins). And tabbed browsing. Enough said.

it annoys me that you can't disable tabs in firebird, and that the bookmarks button like in mozilla or NS doesn't exist.. otherwise I'd also be using it.

Anyone know how to get the 3rd scroll button working in mozilla? (given that scroll-up is button 1, scroll-down is botton 2, pressing down on scroll is button 3). I wan't what this button does in IE for mozilla ;) (You know what it does, though it's a bitch to describe)

I'm not sure what you mean exactly. Normally tabs only pop up if you tell them to; the main exception is middle-clicking, which can be made to open a new window instead of a new tab by manually tweaking the pref for it (why it's not in the GUI is anyone's guess; seems like a pretty important option to me). If you want to give it a shot, go to about:config (in the URL bar) and change browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick to "false". I'm not sure what browser.tabs.opentabfor.urlbar does, but alt+enter in the URL bar seems to open a new tab either way. :huh

the bookmarks button like in mozilla or NS doesn't exist
It's just not in the toolbar by default (at least on 0.6.1/Linux) - right-clicking on the toolbar and hitting "Customize" brings up a box of goodies that can be added, including a Bookmarks button. Or do you mean that the behavior of this button is not what you want?
