Corrupt RAR files -- anyway to fix?

I DL'd a set of rars.

I believe they are all the proper size, but I'm getting errors saying the file(s) are corrupt.

I have a PAR and SFV file but I don't know what to do with them.

Is there anything I can do?

Install the latest version or RAR. SFVs are only good for detecting errors, and don't help with repairing files (and they're kind of pointless for archive formats which contain checksums for each part).

You can always try the built in repair function (it's somewhere in the menus of WinRAR). That will generally solve small corruption issues IF the original person was smart enough to include a recovery record.

eeeh I think I found the problem.

these were from direct connect and I think somebody was trying to fake some of the parts. what a bunch of crap.

Anyway.... what's the PAR file for?

They're "parity archives" which can help repair broken sets of files, usually used on Usenet for binary postings.
