got new comp.....not detecting HDD

Well, I got my new PC, put it all together and it booted up. Went into the BIOS and it detects my cdrom as the primary drive but it does not detect a hdd at all.

When the PC loads up, it says it detects HD<insert numbers here> and says I can enter a raid utility thing. Tried that, wouldn't let me do anything cuz I only have 1 drive.

I next tried to instal windows 2k....'I inserted the floppys (all 4 of em) it loaded up and prompted me to put the cd in, I did that then continued w/ the installation. It told me that it couldn't install it cuz I have no HDD.

Next I tried to put up the mobo cd they gave me, and it says media test failed, and then tried to boot from the hdd, then the floppy (how I have the boot sequence setup).

I have made sure that all cable are connected good but for sum reason the BIOS wont detect the HDD and neither will the win2k install. Anyone have suggestions on how to exactly get this up and running? any help would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks guys, later

nvmd, figured it out. Everythng was connected just fine. I guess I had to enable the controllers, then make a disc from the drivers on the cd and load them on by pressing f6 when windows installer started. workin great now, except for the fact it wouldn't let me partition the drive for sum reason ? oh well, atleast it works

Yeah...SATA devices aren't detected in BIOS on the IDE channels. Most OS's detect SATA drives as SCSI.

I didn't have any problem partitioning my drive...don't know what's going on there. Try Partition Magic after you install XP...
