How do I save my email messages?

I've tried using outlook on XP, but it is just horrible! Right now, it won't even come on. it just sits in my tray and says I have new messages. Doesn't even respond to clicks.

Here what I want to do... download and save (archive) all of the messages from my hotmail account so that I may erase them from the server (making more room) but keep them on hardrive to look at later.

Is this possible with copy and pasting each individual message? Can anyone recommend a program?

Edit:

what I am asking is... is there any alternative to outlook? Mine just doesn't work. If I click it I just get the old hour glass and 20 seconds later a beep. I want something else.

ePromter......check it out, it's nice, neat, efficent and runs in the background and takes up hardly any CPU AT ALL. it grabs the e-mail and sends it to u at selected intervals from as many accounts as u want.

BUt how can I SAVE all of my email messages to a folder? Outlook deletes them off my drive as I delete them from the account. I want something that will not sync (allows me to keep all emails.)

As soon as you download your files in outlook, they are deleted off the server. Once you've retrieved your emails with outlook (or outlook express) they no longer reside on the server, and only on your pc. From there you can choose to keep them around saved in folders, or delete them as you choose to do so.

ahhh ic, yeah that's cause you are using a hotmail account with it, I assumed you were using a normal pop3 mail, my bad. Ummm not real sure... you running outlook or outlook express? Also when you open mail by double clicking is there a save as thing in the file menu or anything?

Edit: If worse came to worse you could probably copy and paste your emails into word or something.

I've always hated Mozilla/Netscape for mail, nearly as much as I loathe Outlook and/or any type of webmail service. Be a man and use a proper mail reader. I recommend sylpheed-win32.
