I'd like to think it will happen eventually, but I'm not holding my breath. For me though, Dreamcast with it's software lineup wipes the floor with PS2, Cube and Xbox and I can't see any real signs of that changing. Obsolete or not, a console is as good as its games, right?

yes but many gamers are brain washed by comercails

and i do belive that was a big contributing factor to the NEs being more poular than the master system -- i know about all the other reasons (like the constitutional one) but most kids at that time didnt know abotu that -- so i belived that then when i was a kid and i do now -- i have a hard time understanding people chooseing the lesser quality things over the better shit ---- i dont want to hear well the NES was more fun uh uh im still fucking my ass with the light gun ooh the fuckin nes sucked monkey ass and most of their games did too -- yes they did hav a couple good ones and nintendo fucked sega iligaly and sega would have had more shit but almost every game on the master system was real good -- god damn i hated the nes in that era of gameing ( now i own a couple but i still hate it )

marketing -- like a freind of mine whos opinion is never his own just what he hears or sees from the media word for word

and yes it is all a mater of opinion but (ill probably get some responses to this) if they dont agree with me they are wrong (to the sega and nes thing and the similar)(not world politcs or something like that dont bring that up )

Marketing does play in and also people who read ignorant game reviews by places like gamepro magazine, who are often times "in bed" with a particualr game company, it is impossible to get an unbiased review from some corporate videogame "magazine" who is paid or given free promotional stuff just to ween them over to the darkside, people should play the games and not give in to blatant commercialism, and the brainwashing that exsists, these videogame magazines make or break a company, or a particular game alot of times, they can give resident evil (for example) a superb review yet, they will take a game like, iron storm for the saturn (yet again anothe example) and give it a horrible review, and the result of this is people flocking to the stores and buy millions of ps's while the saturn lay dormant and died a premature death because people didn't like the games, and in turn felt no reason to buy the system. Oh well. I do think that sega will put out a system, I feel they will be able to make enough as a software company especially in dealing with all three major systems right now, plus arcades, they will be back probably in 2 or 3 years tops.

SEGA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

since sega has usualy been the comapny to bring in a new idea first with all the systems they will wait to see when thers a good time for a new gimick like mabey try virual games or something (like the games for the pc where you can get a helmet and for a game - example flight war sim you turn your head to see al around you )- example of new gimic for game system - its old gimick but they didnt realy work before

especaily sisnce i think these games systems will stay for a while casue technicaly they are at a peak i realy think maby only a ps3 would comout to compare to the xbox but then what else is there besides making games more better graphicaly and right now they are pretty enough for time to come -- what else is there beside life like charaters so when there seem that a fresh new face should pop in i think it would be sega -- and use this time to impress people with their games

Yes, but many gamers are brain washed by commercials.

Isn't that more or less the point of the commercial in the first place?

I heard a rumour not so long ago that Nintendo was planning to release it's next console together with Sega. There's probably no truth to this, but if it was true, how would you feel about this idea?

um, yeah...unless technology failed to advance in the next 2-3, thats just not true.Click here for what might make its way into PS3...

i dunno if that chip would be in the ps3 it sounds like it would make the console hugely overpriced and ppl like small price tags.

Theoretically it's kindof like a network system, like SETI... so with that in mind, I'm getting the feeling like the PS3 can have expansion packs or something... so you can buy, say, a base set and add on stuff (much like the saturn!) to play more intensive games (like Final Fantasy Kabillion or MGSXX or Tony Hawk 9,000,000 or whatever other franchise companies are trying to kill).

Also, the theory is that this stuff will be in other appliances too... so the TV you run the system on can influence how well the game runs...

We know next to nothing about it of course, and this is all speculation. It could just be a nice little console priced at $350 USD.

that triforce thing is good to know know i have a better itdea if how to run the more current arcades at home (when i feel like doing it) but right now i just have a hankering to set up a standard jamma set up to run arcade boards

ne1 have a super gun?

if so did you buy or build your self

I disagree. Sony have always seemed to have the best marketing, which is why the Playstation/Playstation 2 have outsold all other consoles on the market. Does this make these consoles the best choice for gamers looking for quality games?[/b][/quote]

You just made my point.

If the marketing is good, they make tons of cash, whether or not the hardware/software is good.

You can shove Mario down millions of kids' throats and I can guarantee you that in 50 years all those that received the Mario-stuffing will remember Mario before they remember Sonic... and I wonder what they would be more likely to buy for THEIR kids.

Quality is irrelevant in terms of making money. See above point.

The real gamers will of course go for the best system(s) but as it happens, the best systems generally die out faster because the other 99% of the population is stuffed full of Mario.

The point of view on this issue is completely irrelevant because there are so few gamers around that they don't even make up 1/10 of the purchasing population of consoles anymore.

Also, Sega will not be making another console. I can guarantee it. As a matter of fact, I'd put large sums of money on it.

It's not about satisfying the "gamers" anymore. It's about making MONEY. Money makes the world go 'round.

I am a 'real' gamer, so i tend to base my opinions on how much enjoyment i will get from the console i intend to purchase. It doesn't have to have the best 'specs', i just want to play the best games. Some people will purchase a certain console as some sort of fashion statement. Sad.

it was always about making money

but if the gameing industry becomes stale then i think sega may take advantage of that

i realy dont see a point in next gen consouls anymore - the technology can make home games look real nice and have alot of depth -- so if they stick with the prsent consoles (after a ps3 ) then there shuold be no reason for another one just games taking more advantage of the system hardware

but i gues the companies know things can get stale and they will try to prevent it (so mabye there wont be any new sega system- but i would certainly like to see one) with a new system that realy is not an improvement just new packageing --- id rather see a push for fancy addons -- like with the old nes , i.e. that stupid robot or the ultrasound device (good concept- but not done extreamly well) - 3d glasses or helmet (sega - vectrex)
