Mednafen Sega Saturn Save Files Issues (Sakura Wars)

Greetings to all. I would like to ask a specific question about the save files. I played Sakura Wars using a .cue file format without creating a .m3u file beforehand. After creating it, I launched it and a group of files was created. But since there are two groups of files with the same formats, the question is, how can I rename them so that the emulator can see both disks? Or will it require more than just a name change?

Hello there.
If i understood correctly, you loaded the very same CD image using a .cue, then using a .m3u afterwards, and now you're trying to access the saves you created when it was a .cue, right?
I'm gonna guess that only the 3 files starting with "Sakura Wars" are the ones that Mednaf created when it was a .cue, can you please confirm?

Files which are named "Sakura Wars" are the ones which are created after launching game through .m3u file.

I finished the first disc, but now need to transfer saves from this disc to disc 2.

I see.
Then your current progression should actually be included in "SAKURA_CD1.xxxxxxx.bkr", assuming you finished disc 1 at the time where you were using a .cue to play the game.
.bkr files include raw save RAM data, and luckily, nothing else.

1) Copy all files to a save place, just in case.
2) Delete everything except:
- "Sakura Wars.xxxxxxx.bcr"
- "Sakura Wars.xxxxxxx.smpc"
- "SAKURA_CD1.xxxxxxx.bkr"
3) Rename "SAKURA_CD1.xxxxxxx.bkr" to "Sakura Wars.xxxxxxx.bkr", just be sure that "xxxxxxx" matches exactly what's in the "Sakura Wars.xxxxxxx.bcr" and "Sakura Wars.xxxxxxx.smpc" file names.

Let us know how that went.
Cheers =]

Thanks for the advice, but such way can't transfer save files. I've done similar way before but by launching the emulator I saw that save files are in place, but it is Disc 1. Such picture should also be on Disc 2, where I can use the last save.

Hmm...
Out of curiosity, is the problem also present when using .cue files instead?

1. In the Mednafen program directory, open mednafen.cfg in Notepad or your preferred text editor.
2. Do a search (CTRL+F) for filesys.fname_sav
3. Change the line to filesys.fname_sav %f.%x
4. Rename the cue file for disc 2 to SAKURA_CD2.cue
5. Extract the attached file using 7-Zip or your preferred file archiver.
6. Place SAKURA_CD2.bkr in the Mednafen saves folder.
7. Save file can now be loaded from disc 2 🙂
