modded model 1 problems

So I went to play my old model 1 modded saturn (with a chip and hard wired region switch) and the drive LED just flashes and it goes right to the sega splash screen. System worked a couple weeks ago when I last used it so I'm not really sure what's going on but it seems modchip related because the system will boot and play originals (both us/jap) without the chip connected.

has anyone seen this problem before? I double checked both ribbons going to the chip and the 5V red power wire and everything looks fine. (multimeter reads 5V is being supplied down the red wire). The laser just wont spin up with the chip installed.

Make sure the ribbon cables are properly lined up connecting to the chip. I know when modding a model 2, if everything is correct but the chip is either not installed into the motherboard just right or the ribbon cable is not plugged into the Modboard just right the saturn will boot fine, but the CD spindle does not spin and the laser will not move and the CD player screen simply displays checking disk.

Its possible overtime something worked lose, or perhaps some sort of dirt or corrosion found itself onto the ribbon connectors or the modboard sockets.

Id think it would be unlikely that the modboard would just fail after working fine for a long period of time. Although perhaps there was a faulty solder joint that is just now causing a problem, if trying the above method doesnt work maybe check over the mod board for a faulty connection.
