MY UPS

I have just put a UPS on my pc.. I had it set up to shutdown after 2 minutes of battery power.. So i tested it.. and sure enough after 2 mins it did.. only it restarted!

This is practically useless in a real power outage if the computer continually restarts until the backup batteries are dead. Does anybody have any ideas how i can make it just shut down the computer not just the operating system?

what brand is it?

what OS are you using?

I just got my TrippLite the other day, but haven't tried the auto shutdown thing.

eeek -- well I hope mine doesn't do the same thing.

you might want to check into TrippLite's site to see if they have support email or message boards. It should be their responsibility to help you out

Well so far its been a day without any reply from tripplite..

If anyone has any suggestions it woulld be greatly appreciated because as of now who knows how long it might take to get a reply..

If you can shut your computer down manually and it does power off, then my guess would be you accidentally misconfigured your UPS software to reboot, not shut down. Better doublecheck, even (and especially if) you're 100% sure. 🙂

There may be an option in your BIOS that tells it to come back on when it regains power from a power loss. Could that interfere with the way the UPS software works? I know that by default, my BIOS is set to stay powered off in the event it loses power. So if I lose power, my PC stays off even after power is restored.

Well i rechecked my UPS software, and I noticed the shutdown tab says "operatin system shutdown" nowhere is there a selection for the whole pc to be shutdown..

I find it hard to believe that there is no way to make it shutdown..
