Concerning the news on the upcoming SONY PS-3 being region free, does that also apply for PS-1 & PS-2 games from any region or just for the PS-3 games?

I'm still skeptical about the whole region-free thing. I haven't heard any details, and I'd expect publishers to not be too keen on the idea of European/Australian gamers freely importing the NTSC versions of everything before they have time to prepare a local release. Some people have suggested that what Sony is really doing is making region coding more flexible like on Genesis, Neo-Geo, Saturn, Dreamcast etc so that publishers can choose how to divide their releases among different regions, have region-specific censoring, etc. (i.e. region lockout is optional for publishers, not for users). I guess this would make more sense, but I haven't seen any particular evidence for it either.
