*.rar files & errors...

Hello.

I tried to unpack a *.rar file that contains a folder with several files, using winrar3.30.

I right click on the file and press, "extract here". The procedure starts, but an error message comes saying: “Invalid or Corrupt authenticity Information”

The file gets extracted though, regardless the error message.

I remember, when other error messages occurred, the extraction would stop.

What does this message mean? Is the extracted file corrupt?

The folder with the files seems to be ok.

The registered version of RAR allows you to insert information into the archive which can be used to verify that the author of the archive really is who it claims to be and that the archive hasn't been tampered with. In your case it would seem that the AV info is broken as you don't get the verification failure message you would get if the contents had been modified. Another possibility is that the author of the archive was using a pirated key.

Here's what RARLab have to say on the subject.

My favorite thing is when people put up incomplete rars for download. Hurray.
