Saturn SCART video capture

Hi all,

I have a NTSC JP saturn connected to a PAL TV using RGB SCART, and a passthrough adapter to split the audio from the video into some separate speakers.

I'd like to start capturing video from it into a capture card that has oldschool analogue video inputs. The passthrough adapter also has composite and s-video outputs. Now it's my understanding that S-Video won't work, because the same SCART pins are used for RGB. The composite video works, but is in black and white. This isn't a NTSC vs. PAL issue, since the same capture card is able to capture colour just fine when getting direct composite video from my PC Engine. So what is it?

Did the cable manufacturer not connect a few pins, is the passthrough adapter problematic? Is this setup entirely doomed, should I give up and try something else, or is there something salvageable here?

Thanks
