Should I buy an ATOMISWAVE or Neo-Geo AES?

So... Should I? I have an urge to play KOF 2000, Metal Slug 5, and a few more titles... But what I have seen is that SNK/PLAYMORE is moving onto the ATOMISWAVE. Should I just buy an ATOMISWAVE or Neo-Geo AES? What are the chances of a re-release of those games being on ATOMISWAVE?

Neither, get a Neo MVS instead. KOF2000 and MS5 will set you back a lot of $ if you plan on buying the AES versions. MS5 doesn't work with the Phantom either, IIRC. Of course if you just want to play those two games, you could just get them for PS2 as well. The ports aren't as good as the real deal, but they're much cheaper.

Neither of those games will be re-released on the Atomiswave, but the system does have Metal Slug 6, KOF Neowave and KOF XI.

I don't really know what else I would need for a MVS... eBay doesn't seem to have a lot of them (1-slot would be fine?) I doubt SNK even produces the hardware anymore... :(

Get the AES versions! Atomiswave and MVS = Meh!

lol, seriously if ya got the cash get AES all the way! If you dont then get a Supergun and a 1 Slot MVS console, or even buy an MVS Arcade Cabinet. But forget about Atomiswave, it has no great games and probably never will. It is already considered DEAD in the water by most people.

Personnally I'm switching from AES to MVS with a supergun, as AES is reaaaaally too expensive ...

And my favorite Neogeo game, Money Idol Exchanger, is only available on MVS ;)

You can get a 1 slot for 70/80 euros, and MVS games are a lot cheaper ...

If you're a gamer, get a MVS setup. If you're a collector, get an AES ... I've chosen my side ;)

And Atomiswave isn't that bad ... KOF XI is considered by specialists as good as KOF 2002 (which is considered as the best as the series)

List of Atomiswave games

I dunno, SS Tenka and NGBC are both pretty good (especially Tenka), Hokuto no Ken looks sweet, and MS6 looks promising. But yeah, the system was never destined to be nearly as great as the Neo.

From Wikipedia:

A SuperGun (or Super Gun) is a mini-arcade system, usually used for home use on a television (like a home console system). A SuperGun contains the inner workings of a standard arcade videogame cabinet inside a small plastic of metal box. A SuperGun plugs in a JAMMA board and usually has several outputs (such as composite video, s-video and rgb) to a television or monitor.

Got it. Now, Would it be better to get me a Super Gun instead of modding the MVS board? Are there any pros and cons? I see some Super Guns already have the arcade stick built-in, can I just use an alternative?

I have played Samurai Spirits on Atomiswave, No Blood or Fatalities = YUCK! , no thanks.

Metal Slug 6 with NO BLOOD = Meh!

NeoGeo Battle Colliseum = so, so... but its coming out on XBOX and PS2 so again, Meh!

Atomiswave = BIG LET DOWN.

Not true SNK machine, and not true SNK company games, and it shows.

Oh and to Runik, you think Money Idol Exchanger is only on MVS? you must know little about conversions. I have MANY games on AES that were supposed to be MVS only.

Bang Bead, Zupapa, Strikers 1945 PLUS, Super Dodgeball, Zed Blade, GhostLop, Breakers Revenge, Fight Fever, Tecmo World Soccer '96, Puzzle De Pon R!, Nightmare in the Dark, etc... are all sitting in my Neo-Geo AES game cabinet and all of them are AES format. AES>MVS anyday of the week. I now only have my MVS games for my Arcade Cab. or sitting in the MVS box waiting for conversion time. ;)

It is just my opinion so dont bite my head off. :p

Of course I know about conversions

The fact is that converted games are always more expensive than the original MVS cart. So it's interesting for a Metal Slug for example (1100 euros around here in AES, 45 euros in MVS) where your convert will be around 150 euros, but I prefer by far to stick with the MVS cart.

And converts aren't originals, so they lack notice most of the time.

There's another mean to use MVS carts on a Neogeo AES, which is some kind of adaptater named the phantom ... but not every game works with it.

Anyway I'm not a big fan of converts, as it implies butchering of an original cart to stuff the MVS in ...

The Phantom works almost 100%, there are only a few games that don't work with it. There is supposedly another adapter coming out in the next couple of months that will fix these problems as well. But yeah, adapters are a PITA when you want to switch games.

just get the MVS, games are cheaper, plus you'll get native RGB output.

The Atomiswave is losing support in the arcades and i really doubt whether it will last much longer. Although it may be worth it for the Fist of the North Star game (Haduko no Ken?) and MS6

I guess I have no comment then, lol, go for the cheap stuff.

I own a Pranslation and a Phantom-1 and they are a joke!

I'm more than ready to buy a cabinet, but without any PCB to hook up, I can't play! A seller from Germany hasn't really responded to any of my e-mails :(
