Sonic Saturn - Project Presentation

Hi everyone!

I’ve been lurking here for a while, and after some encouragement from people on YouTube and on the Spanish community segasaturno.com, I’ve finally decided to come and present the project I’m working on: Sonic Saturn.

What is it?
Sonic Saturn is a homebrew fan game for the Sega Saturn. It’s not a port or a copy of Sonic Adventure. It’s my attempt at the 32-bit Sonic many of us dreamed about back in the 90s. I started from one question: what did we want from a Sonic game on the Saturn?

Current state
Here’s the trailer I published recently:

There are 8 more videos on my YouTube channel. I only started uploading them a short while ago, to share the game’s progress with friends.

As you’ll see, several levels are already finished. There are fully 3D environments, tributes to Sonic Adventure with stages that have sections inspired by it but reimagined for 32 bits, rail stages, an aerial stage with Sonic flying alongside Tails in the Tornado, 2 bosses and, of course, the Super Sonic transformation for fans of the 16-bit era. You can see different levels in the videos I’ve already uploaded.

There’s still work to do. I’m doing a lot of optimization on the communication and load balancing between the two SH-2s, and squeezing the most out of the VDPs... but there’s still a long way to go!

Feedback from people who know the hardware this well is very welcome. I’d also like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the forum and thank you all for so much information. I’ve always read you, but until now I hadn’t had the time to contribute.

Thanks for reading, and thanks to everyone who pushed me to post it here!
