When it comes to the two biggest rivals in the 3D fighting arena, people usually point to Virtua Fighter and Tekken as the main proponents, and with good reason: Where Virtua Fighter has gone, Tekken has always followed (and occasionally surpassed). In this feature we're going to break down each series in a number of critical categories and evaluate who comes out on top, determine who exactly is the winner, declare who is the champion of them all.

Virtua Fighter fanatics will tell you that you can cram all the stupid, secondary, superfluous modes into a Tekken home conversion that you want, but that they'll take the depth and purity of VF's martial arts combat any day of the week. The point of a fighting game, after all, is to fight. Not to bowl, or to mess around with joke characters like Tekken's Gon, Dr. Boskonovitch, or virtual menagerie of kangaroos and pandas. Hell, even GunJack is something of a running robotic joke, with his Russian Cossack dance.
