Yay GameDR!

I just found Magforce racing DC for a buck at the thrift store. It wasn't that scratched up, but my experience has been that the dreamcast is the most sensitive console to invisible scratches I have EVER used (FYI, I know about top-scratches). And sure enough, this disc didn't work.

I had recently picked up a GameDR at another thrift store for a buck. Thought it might be worth a try. I figured, what the heck, might as well test it out.

To my amazement, it actually worked! The game plays now.

So I went back through my stack of coasters. I had a copy of Gunbird 2 that looked like it was runover by a dumptruck. I ran that through the GameDR, and wow, it plays now!

I'd always heard these things didn't work very well. And obviously they don't save against top-scratches. But so far, I'm impressed!

Yeah, I've seen some marked improvement particularly in a couple of badly-scratched music CDs that I tried it on. It's a lot of work, but with a bit of persistence it pays off.

I finished going through all my coasters. My final result is:

Saved:

DC Gunbird 2

DC Magforce Racing

3DO Off-World Interceptor

Sega CD Spiderman Kingpin

Sega CD Jurassic Park

Unsaveable:

Saturn Fighters Megamix (lots of top-scratches)

Sega CD Ecco Tides of Time (freezes after menu)

Sega CD Mansion of Hidden Souls
