22,000+ dead and still rising from quake

Largest quake in 40 years anywhere in the world. Tsunami killed 22,000+ people and the numbers are still rising.

Really sad.

My prayers go with them.

CNN reported how 1 small island was totaly wiped out. All the people are assumed dead; and all the buildings were destroyed. Real sad. The scary thing to imagine is this; what would that thing had happened in California?

I think it's sad that these thinsg happen BUT I understand they happen for a reason...it's natures way of keepin the enviroment in check. Just liek diseases/plagues/tornados/etc. Maybe this will cause lots of people to move away from that area?

Probably not, people are pretty bad about staying in disaster prone areas (see: Florida, Japan, France)

The cause is the movements of tectonic plates. It doesn't keep the enviroment in check. It just happens, there's a reason, but the reason isn't to destroy life in an area. That's just the inevitable result.

I have a friend who's in Indonesia right now with her family. I'm rather worried.

The underwater quake, which the U.S. Geological Survey put at magnitude 9.0, was the biggest since 1964, when a 9.2-magnitude temblor struck Alaska, also touching off tsunami waves. There were at least a half-dozen powerful aftershocks, one of magnitude 7.3.

It is now expected to surpass 110,000. And Bush thinks $34 million is sufficient? I'm betting he will raise that amount, being as England has plegged almost $100 million. Hell even drug maker Pfizer has pleged more than the US. All in all, I hope some global unity comes out of this. If the world leaders come together and help out, then atleast some good would have come from this horrible disaster.

That was for initial assistance. What did the UN initially pledge? If you knew how these things worked, you'd know more is on the way. On top of that, look at the total amount the US spent in 2004 on foreign aid. We have, are, and will continue to doll out large sums of cash.
