Advice Needed: I want to create romhacks within Sonic Jam

Hi, I'm Eva! New to Saturn dev here and wanted to know: are there known methods of cracking the filetypes of the Sonic Jam emulated Sonic games? Asking first because I've been burned a couple times before with thinking that mods that seem straightforward are actually so. Please and thanks! Either way, I'm looking forward to tinkering around with Saturn stuff of some sort in the immediate future 🙂

Sonic games on the Saturn are not actually emulated - they were ported or re-written in some form or another to run on the Saturn. Emulation wasn't really a thing back then, and the Saturn is probably not fast enough to emulate the Genesis anyway.

Not saying that means you can't hack it, but it's probably not going to be the same as ROM hacking the original Genesis versions.
