Are fanboys true gamers?

With the ever present fanboy rambling that goes on inside these hallowed walls I think it'd be appropriate to truly find out how the majority of the people here feel.

My personal opinion is that TRUE gamers follow the games, not a system or a company. SEGA is my favorite, but just because I pick a favorite doesn't mean I need to turn a blind eye to all the other video game goodness that is going around.

And just to get me flamed some more, I think GTA3 is a great game.

I would have to agree with Racketboy on this one, extreme fanboys are not true gamers as they turn a blind-eye to great games on other consoles or game makers.

I consider myself a true gamer. Sure, some may see me as a one-eye Sega fanatic, but I gotta defend my pride.

When it comes to my hatred for $ony, it's mainly due to their ridiculous overhyping of EVERYTHING (All bow before the Almighty Emotion Engine! Whatever.... <_< Credit to racketboy for that  ), and they're shoddy workmanship on their consoles. I've heard so many stories about PSXs and PoS2s breaking down, that it's just nuts. $ony is STILL having hardware problems here and there. Sure I own two PoS2s, and two PSXs, but that's because it all about the games. If PoS2 didn't have VF4 or VF Evolution, chances are, that I'd have a 'Box or 'Cube right now. I love the PSXs game library, it's one of the best game libraries ever. It's just $ony's way of doing business and their drones.... er... I mean slaves... wait... uh... "fans" that piss me off. Uh oh... here comes Des-ROW defending her beloved $ony <_<

I love Nintendo as well. Nintendo 64 is the least liked of all major Nintendo consoles (Keyword: Major. Virtual Boy, wasn't all that big), but it's my favorite Nintendo console. It's first generation titles are the best it has (All games released from Launch up until about.... Zelda: Ocarina of Time are the best). I like the SFC, but that'd have to be my least favorite Nintendo console. Maybe it's my love for the MegaDrive that makes me dislike the SFC somewhat? I dunno. NES is also very kick ass. I just bought one a couple weeks ago. Installed a new 72-Pin Adaptor, knocked out the region lockout, and picked up the NES Player's Guide. I got 42 games for it, playing Punch-Out!! and Zelda quite a bit. I always have, and always will love Nintendo.

Saturn :bow , Dreamcast, MegaDrive, Mega CD, and the 32x may be my favorites overall, but I'll always have a place for: Nintendo 64, NES, SFC, and PSX in my gaming center. The libraries for these are some of the best ever (PSX has the best library, right behind the DC), and it's the quality of these console's game libraries that makes me play these consoles. It's not just Sega for me (although some of you may think that ;) :p ).

Isn't that the definition of a "fanboy"? Someone who likes something just because it's made by a certain company? You can have favorites, but to like something just because it has the right label is what fanboys do.

I love Sega more than anyone else. Some call me a fanboy.

But I also play other consoles and games by others. So I'm still open minded.

I'd class myself in the same way. I like Sega more then any other company, but I wont blindly buy everything they make. Even the mighty Sega release the odd stinker.

I do have a dislike of the Playstation. But thats only due to some of the people who own them. The type who ignored the DC, class the GC as kiddy and wont touch anything if its not considered 'cool'.

You damn right! :D :cheers :smokin: :bow :thumbs-up:

I dislike the PlayStation too.

The Dreamcast was and IMO is still better than the PS2, but the PS1/2 kiddies thought it's not "cool"

Also, Saturn > PlayStation.

But I like the Cube, N64, XBOX and various other older machines.

I may ramble on and on about hardware capabilities, but I have like 60-70 Saturn games (and I can prove I've played all of them! Save data exists on either the hardware or my AR4M+), ~40 SNES, ~30 N64, ~10 PS1 (I'd have more but the good ones are so fucking expensive... and copies run like utter crap so I've given up on that for now), and 25 GCN games... and I'll soon be getting a Dreamcast... and if I end up staying in my city for Uni (which I very well might), I'll also get a PS2 soon.

Yeah, rabid fangirlism did make me avoid PS2, but once the good games started appearing for it I did readily admit it had some great games. =)

Define what a true gamer is. IMO, if you play games from the heart (not from commercialism) then you are a true gamer. You can get fanboys of both kinds. So my vote stays null for now

I admit it, I am a sega fanboy and I do dislike Sony's consoles.....why? Not because of the people who own them (why should u hate sumthin because certain ppl own them?) but because I dislike the design, most games and prob. the thing that keeps me away from a PS machine is the controller. it's horrable! it's right up there w/ the intellivision remote, fatty xbox remote, etc. The controller is good for one thing, THPS games and THPS based games(like the snowboarding one...surfing one, etc.).

Yes, their consoles are very cheaply made and not very well engineered(sp¿, I am WAY off, haha) and that is another reason why I dislike their consoles. But alas it does have sum great games on it but not much IMO. Has TONZ of good games, very few "great" games. All the FF games are horrable, go play a shining force game, chrono trigger, the golden sun games, etc. Now THERE is an rpg.

but enuf of my blabbering I agree with the who follow the games thing if you gusy didn't already figure that out, haha *looks down*. But ya, if sumone is a fanboy...let them be happy with what they got. It goes along w/ my whole ugly ppl theory. If they get on sum girl/guy that u think hidious, let them! If it gets them off, good for them. Wouldn't that be nice if all females looked insanely good to you? hell ya it would!

*edit* gotta copyright my signature quote thing now.....certain ppl with moustaches might try and rip it off, haha Ü

Oh come on, you've got to love analog-only games like Ore-no Ryouri! (I think it means "I'm the chef" or something to that extent, I LOVED that game!)

Sort of reminds me of Shallow Hal. At least they were happy, that's what counts, doesn't it?... Oh no my life is ruined! *cries*

I was a fanboy - I had never touched a Playstation or PS2 - but I recently bought a PS from Solid Snake (mainly for DDR) but I bought a slew of games with it... sadly enough, my DC has been sitting around doing nothing. In the meantime, I've quickly become a Tekken 3/Soul Blade/ Bushido Blade/ GT2 junkie. FFVII is next.

It's strange, all this time I've been looking for games like those for the Saturn / DC, when they were right there on the PS. I probably would've saved a helluva lot of money in the long run just getting select titles for all the systems.

What's about the controller do you not like - the shape? button layout? d-pad?

Actually the PS1 was VERY well engineered, and used some really intelligent tricks to get good performance. Too bad they had to cut back on build quality to compensate for the costs. Saturn OTOH isn't so well designed, but Sega went the extra mile to ensure excellent production quality to make up.

And um.. have you played EVERY FF game? ALL OF THEM?

And what makes you think FF7-9 are the only RPG's on PS1?

Legend of Legaia is seriously awesome... there's also Star Ocean 2, Lunar 2, Xenogears, Vagrant Story, Legend of Dragoon...

Lunar 2, Xenogears, Vagrant Story, Legend of Dragoon...

It definetly was better engineered, in all aspects, even if they cut out longevity from the equation. Consider it like this - the Saturn was blown out of the water for two reasons (in my mind) - programming (level of difficulty) and price point. Sony on both points beat Sega, and it was their first console. It's not projected horsepower (the main crux of PS vs Saturn) - I mean, what good is a Ferrari engine with a Pinto exhaust?

I'm about to fire up Xenogears as we speak!

Wow, I know I've gotten on Cloud121 before for talking like a fanboy, but you did a hell of a job defending yourself. :thumbs-up:

And my definition of a true gamer:

Some who plays games because they're fun, not because of the company who made them or what system they're on.
