Backing up some Saturn games

Hi everybody,

I'm planning to buy the jandam*'s modchip for Saturn.

Sorry for following stupid questions, I'm new in this forum (and I don't know Saturn very much) and my questions could be already made in the past. So I just beg your pardon if any question is too lame! 🙂

I have a MK200A-50 PAL Saturn. My only purpose is backing-up five original games I have got with my Saturn.

Here my questions:

- A friend told me that all old Saturn modchips work with just "printed" backup copies, that is, I can't use PC burned backups on CD-R. I don't believe him, since I've found some demo program on the net in ISO format ready to burn up. So, after I solder my modchip, can I use standard a PC burning program and some CD-R disc?

- what is the best program for PC for backing-up? Is there some special instruction to follow?

- Can I use CD-R 74 minutes only? Are the Saturns 80 min/CD-RW suitable? Are all CD-R company models good, or is there some preferred model?

Thank you in advance!

Regards,

davide

Rubbish. You can definitely copy games using your PC.

Opinion is divided (as always).

I prefer CDRWin, whereas others will swear by Nero. Some burning guides can be found here.

You can use any length of CDR.

Use of CD-RWs is possible, but requires some tinkering and can shorten the life of your Saturn. A guide can also be found in the miscellaneous section.

Which CDRs are best? Again, everyone has their own opinion. You've really got to try them and see for your self. Avoid the really cheap ones if you can.

I agree goon , what a great prog... woooo hoo

:agree

i'll second that! have you also tried (for CD-CD copy only) PSX Copier 2000 (on kazza)?

The only thing I use nero for is file cd's... cause I've never bothered to learn how, or if it's possible to burn them with cdrwin. I do the same thing though. I never play the originals of my saturn collection. I only play backups of them... the originals stay in their cases in a cabinet ^_^.

edit:

On a side note, you should open up your saturn and make sure that a mod chip is going to work in there. It's gotta have a 21pin ribbon cable... and not be a sanyo cd board.

Thank you everybody for infos.

For last topic:

How can I see if my CD board is manufactured by Sanyo?

Thanks

The top of the printed circuit board will be beige and will probably say 'Sanyo' on it somewhere.

The other type (32pin IC and 64 pin IC) are green and say 'JVC' on them. I think they're JVC but I'm not 100% sure. :huh
