Cell Phones and GPS

Well, after this weekend it seems I'd do well with having something like GPS alongside me when I'm trekking across the great northeast, since it seems it'll be a fairly regular thing.

Before I drop $100+ to get my laptop rigged with the latest and greatest, I was wondering if it's possible to use a cell phone as a GPS receiver? I have an Ericsson R280di (internet access and all that stuff) with a phone-to-serial cord (allows me to use the web wirelessly).

Anyone know if this is possible or has been done? And how?

Thanks in advance.

Benefon makes several GSM phones that has GPS features built-in, but I don't know if they'll work in the US or if they're only dual-band.
