dc price guide

seriously price guides are next to worthless

they ruin collecting genres. they make collectors turn into money hungry madmen.

If you want to find out how much something is worth -- you can't get any better than eBay

As far as I can tell DigitPress took all their prices out of their collective (look a pun) asses and put them in those pdfs. Those prices haven't been updated in over a year and I would consider them to be way off. Your best bet is to search for completed auctions on ebay for what you want and see what the average price was for the item in certain conditions.

Now while I agree with you about digitpress, I have to disagree with you about ebay, on their it is free reign, you get every and any idiot selling a game, that to them is a "collectors item" and is rare.... I see copies of crap sports titles for saturn going for 10 bucks and the seller putting "rare" in the auction heading... wtf.. I think ebay needs to be taken with a grain of salt, yes you will find someone selling something and its priced right, but if I had to give any advice, I would have to say beware of RARE....lol

its called supply and demand

its a pretty reliable law of economics

It's pretty much the biggest law of economics in fact.

Just because a game says rare, doesn't make it so, we all know this. So ignore the rare part, and take an average of the prices being paid for that particular game. Another thing is, sports games are fairly popular. Now I may not like them, and you may not like them, but there are a lot of people that do. People will pay what they feel a game is worth, regardless of your opinion, which is why you need to take an average.

Keep in mind that you have to take the condition of the game into account. A sealed copy of some Saturn game would go for much more than say just the game disc itself. You gotta get a handle on what people are willing to pay for the game in what condition. And really that's the best way of judging the price of games. It may not be what you'd want (cheap to buy, expensive to sell) but that's what everyone else seems to want to pay.

The leftover (~20 copies of) Saturn Madden '96 CDs they had at my local GameStop turned into hanging Xmas decorations. 😀

I just recently started listing my collection on IGN's website: http://users.ign.com/collection/scorch56 . One of the great things I liked about this was that as I listed it; it gave me an estimate of the collection's worth. Albeit a VERY "rough" estimate. You see.. the values are based on what IGN's store front (Gamestop affiliate) would ask for the game IF they had it to sell. Sometimes they're pretty close; but sometimes they're WAY off. For example; they list Chronotrigger as being worth $60; but if you WERE to order it from them.. I'd guarantee you it would be a bare cart (as are MOST of their games). A complete or semi-complete copy of Chrono can go for $60 to $100 on eBay. But at least this is a quick way to get a general idea of a game's worth.

About people "bad-mouthing" eBay (It seems like a constant around here); I have bought 98% of my collection off it. No.. I'm not an idiot.. and I'm not a cheapskate either. When I want a game.. and I have the monry.. I go to eBay and buy it.. plain & simple. Talk about crooks. I live in a very small town.. we have one used game store and a Software Etc.. They BOTH charge 2 to 3 times what I can buy a title for on eBay; and pay me 1/4 of what I can SELL a game for on eBay. Of course; collecting for some time now.. I tend to ignore the claims of "rare" and "OOP" from some sellers; but I don't buy from them either. eBay is full of people who love to scam "newbs", but there are a lot of honest and good people on there.

When it comes to pricing.. I can't believe the way some people quibble and squabble over $5 and $10 games on this very forum. Let the flames begin..

thanks scared that was what I was trying to say, I know that supply and demand, are the essential to economics, but there are people on ebay taking advantage of the term "RARE" and throwing it around everywhere.
