Dreamcast lan and broadband

Game Choice Club has DC LAN Adapters and at Lik Sang has DC Broadband adapters. I read that LAN adapters dont work for playing games online, if not whats the purpose of sega making them?

and boy do i wish i had the money to buy one. if only it was possible to l33tly h4x my dc's modem with a pc lan card. oh well, its probably not possible, and if it is im not smart enough to know how.
