Game disc unreadable error, yet I patched

Well, how can it be bad burns? I burn the iso by itself, the game works, i burn the iso with the music, it don't...

The music all works aswell when i play it through my music programs. And the cd is also readable in the computer... Thanks for the help all, It's appreciated... Any more help is appreciated aswell..

Since your burned game works without audio but not with...it occurs to me that you have a bad cuesheet with the iso and mp3 files.

I suggest deleting the cue and regenerating it with Sega Cue Maker to be absolutely certain it's OK.

The one possible reason I'm thinking of why your game may fail is that there is no 2-second gap between tracks 1 (game data) and 2 (first audio track). The Saturn REQUIRES this gap to be there or the game won't run properly...

Hmm, Not sure, I will post a cuesheet of mine.

Also I convert all my files to WAV first though, is this needed, or can i just load it all up in Sega Cue Maker leaving the mp3's as is?

Anywho, Here is one of my cue sheets though:

Thats for Street Fighter Collection Disc 1

Hmm, the cuesheet looks fine, the gap is there too.

Sega Cue Maker doesn't *load* anything, it merely looks at the contents of a directory (hopefully one containing an iso and mp3 or wav files :) and makes a cuesheet for it. Yes, it works for mp3 and wav files.

It's unusual for an iso to be in raw mode (2352 bytes/sector) though. Could it be possible that there are in fact bad sectors in there? ISOBuster doesn't do any error checking but CDmage can perform this function and even repair light or moderate errors in sectors (the same way the hardware error correction in a CD drive does). It's possible that something somewhere leads to one of the game files being corrupt, therefore the game not running/freezing...

In *fact*, it's even possible that the data track is simply incomplete - again, neither ISOBuster nor SatConv would catch that though since all the file/directory info and the country code info is at the beginning of a Saturn game data track.

Then again you did say the games work without audio...which I just remembered again.

Weird...

Do you burn in DAO or TAO mode?

Burn games in DAO. That iso is .raw because it was a .bin when i got it, and i changed it to .raw so it would be recognized by sega cue maker.

Do you think it could be that i am burning in DAO and not TAO? /me is very surprised that he seems to be the only fool with this problem
biggrin.gif

Also, I will just mention that when i tried burning this iso in cdrwin (street fighter collection disc 1 - the cue sheet is listed above) it would not work, said it couldn't start DAO recording because my burner rejected the cue sheet. Nothing else i can think of that will help you guys to getting this working

Burner rejects cuesheet... Two possible reasons:

1. One or more of the .wav files is shorter than 4 seconds. Violation of the CD-ROM specification.

2. CDRWin is asking your recorder to burn in RAW mode since the data track is raw, but your recorder doesn't support that. The solution to that problem would be to convert the bin to a Mode1/2048 iso (both CDmage and ISOBuster do this nicely).

Hey Taelon, I tried burning Street Fighter collection, CD 1 Today in TAO mode with no success. Now you mentioned using CDMage or isobuster to convert the raw data to mode1/2048. Now I've done this with cdmage, but i end off with a .raw file, not an .iso file. Does it really matter?

I would think it does matter.... Either you did something wrong, skipped a step...or you typed in a name manually for the extracted Mode1/2048 track... if you type in a name with ".?e" as the extension, CDmage will append the correct extension based on which kind of track it's producing...that would be ".iso" for a Mode1/2048.

Most of all, of course, the iso track should be several MB smaller than its raw counterpart...

Finally, Yes FINALLY, The saga ends, and with a happy ending. I got it working. Now This is what i needed to do. I needed to make sure that the Data File (whether it be .bin/.iso/.raw) was extracted to a mode 1/2048 .iso file. I left all the mp3's as they were. Put all the files in the same folder, and made sure i used satconv on the .iso file and set it to the proper country code. Then using Fireburner, I would burn the cd at 8x using TAO MODE. Put it in my model 1 saturn, and instead of waiting for the access light to go off so i would know when to switch, i had to listen until i heard the cd laser go to the outer part of the cd for the 2nd time. Then I switched, waited till it blinked rapidly, then switched to the burn, and voila, it worked
biggrin.gif
. I will try it in DAO mode using Nero Burning Rom, because that is what ithink is causing it to flash differently. Whenever I try burning with Fireburner in DAO, i always get a write sector error near the end of the cd. Anyways , I would like to thank all of you for helping me in this situation, and i do think that this thread should be a sticky because it contains loads of helpful information to getting a good working saturn game up and running. Thank you once again

i´m having this problem too. it´s a little different. i have a brazilian saturn . i am trying to make panzer dragoon work with it. it is an iso no mp3 everything is in the iso. i patched it to brazil and burned it on fireburner. and it says game disk unsuitable. the cd is working fine in the computer the tracks play the movies play. i´ll try some of the things from this thread but anything you can say would be great. this was a great thread
smile.gif
. i´ll try that different blinking thing. mine is model 1.

Do you have other games that work when patched to the Brazil region? (Patched so that it is the only region in the image.) It is my theory (supported by some of Sega's docs) that the Brazil region doesn't exist in retail Saturns, and was replaced by the "U" code (US and Canada).

yes i patched nights with the win32 version of the saturnconv. it has code B. and it works really fine. i don´t know what happened with panzer dragoon. nights also is a iso without mp3s i burned with the same program, same configurations, and all. anyway, i´ll try to burn it again with different settings. but i still want to make some experimentations with swapping.

ok you were right. i checked my nights cd and didn´t had only brazil also t, u . and all my original cds have u code.
smile.gif
now this was a nice discovery. i really didn´t knew. thanks for the info.

hi. thx for all the info again. but now i have another problem
sad.gif

i burned panzer dragoon again. now with u code. it started fine. the game started i saw the introduction. but when i start the game it stops at the episode 1 screen, the reading light blinks a little then nothing, i don´t know what´s wrong. the iso file seems fine. can someone help me in this?

another thing. the speed that i burn the cd matter? i am burning them with max speed which is like 30x. and i was thinking if i should burn them with lower speeds.

i don´t have many chances with this. i´m broke and can´t buy more cds.
sad.gif
so i have only 2 more. any help will be very apreciated thx
smile.gif

Burning at high speeds can be a problem, however it seems most people have no problems aat most of the higher speeds. Not sure that burning at 30x is a good idea though. 4x is generally regarded as a safe speed. I can't be certain that this is your problem either.

You might have a bad cue sheet or perhaps you are missing some audio files. Whatever your problem is, it will involve burning (and probably ruining) some more CDs.
