Chui and Fox68k think that the asm core of snes9x is not very efficient. The sh4 (and so the sh2 version) itself is just a 1-to-1 conversion of the original i386 core.
I'm not sure if you can get a similar benefit with FAZE, because you already achieved big speedups with better C cores.
